Amazing view of the harbor

View at sunset was a perfect way to end a long day! We upgraded our room to a suite and unbeknownst to us were put into a handicap suite ... Would have been nice to tell us in advance. Not enough doors for privacy in the bathroom but we made it work with 5 people staying in one room with a king bed, a double pullout and a rollaway bed. Location was easy and a bike ride or long walk to the beach. Hotel provides free bikes. Several chain restaurants within walking distance. Service was fine but not outstanding. Pool was small. Restaurant on property has good food.

Just okay . . .

The Portofino faces the ocean on the west side, then also faces the marina on the east side. We paid extra to be on the second floor(out of 3) on the marina side. First of all, we looked at the marina from across the parking lot(boo), then our view was partially blocked by trees. The walls are thin, the rooms are small, the shower didn't drain well, and the restaurant was booked for Father's Day, so we checked out early to have breakfast somewhere else. Other than that, it was just okay . . . . Beware! If you stay on the first floor of the marina side, you can see right into the rooms!!

For heaven's sake, make a reservation at Baleen , which is the onsite restaurant, or you may be left out! There is other dining nearby, but Baleen looks to be the best.

Luxurious and romantic

Spacious rooms, elegantly equipped, with views of the ocean (optional). Comfortable and peaceful right on the ocean. Personal attention from the staff. A real find but very pricey. For $500 and up a night is it really necessary to charge an extra $26 for parking and Internet?

Portofino

The hotel was nice and very quiet all hours of the day. The staff is kind of scarce at times, especially the valet. Otherwise the staff are very helpful and friendly and room service is top notch. I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Very classy!!

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Baleen across the parking lot has excellent drinks, nice and strong. Food is very pricey there but worth it for the overall experience. Take advantage of the beach cruisers that they let you use; it's a wonderful bike ride down the trail along the beach. Full California experience!!!

3-day business meeting

Overall, I enjoyed the hotel. I think they could have used a continental breakfast that didn't cost $3.00 for a granola bar or a $1.00 for a banana. While it is on the beach there is no beach - it's just on the water front with rooks in front of the breaker wall - property edge. When I booked, I thought everything - hotel, air and hurts car rental - was paid for except a $75 "destination fee"... When I got to hurts, they required a $200 "security deposit". The hotel wanted $200 a day to cover "uncovered expenses" (room service, movies, bar etc). Well, between them I wouldn't have been able to eat had I not sold my car back at home to have cash loaded into my bank account. So I will NOT use hurts again. They have some stupid policies like not re-running a business card twice in the same 24 hour period... among other rules. If Orb could do a better job on publishing any "small print" to avoid surprises like these it would be GREAT. However, BUYERS BEWARE!!

Nice hotel

Comfortable bed and nice room. Only complaint was the A/C never got that cold and made it difficult to sleep in the muggy heat. Other than that everything about the hotel was very nice, with friendly staff.

Beautiful location

I took my girlfriend to Redondo Beach for her 30th birthday. Based on her smile, I made the right choice. The room was nice with a beautiful view of the marina and is in walking distance to the beach and great food. We really enjoyed our stay.
