Great alternative to boring motels

I don't understand why this place is only rated 2 stars. I've stayed at 3-star places that weren't nearly as nice. The staff is friendly, though not extraordinary. Our two-room suite included a tidy little kitchenette. The beds were comfortable (the queen in the back room was the better of the two). The location couldn't be more convenient as a home base for a visit to Placerville and surrounding area.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Everyone says that "Sweetie Pie's," just up the street, is the place to go for breakfast or brunch, but expect LONG waits. Instead, check out the new Filo Bakery & Cafe: Cool jazz and delicious breakfasts at a great price without the crowds (or, let's be honest, the ambience).

Perfect Location for Gold Rush Town

Our midweek overnighter was perfect with the hotel's location in this historic Gold Rush town. Fun shops, wine tasting at Synapse, and we took the fun Ghost Tours of Placerville that started right outside.

Ambience, quiet and convenient

We were traveling on motorcycles and wanted to be within walking distance to local shops and restaurants. This place was perfect. The old elevator was pretty cool. The staff were very nice.

Convenient and affordable historic hotel

We stayed here for our anniversary. It was a cozy room, but couldn't sleep well with the notion of being haunted. I kept feeling my arm and hand being touched! Other than that bed was comfy, room was clean and comfortable. Good price for a little overnight getaway. The Brick restaurant was great, good food and cocktails. Wine tasting right next door also a plus .you can drink without worrying about driving.good experience overall.good breakfast too.

Clean, friendly staff, and great location

We drove up from San Francisco looking to get away and explore the Gold Country. We were welcomed warmly by the staff and enjoyed the convenient location. The Lobby and building was history gold country and even had a signature of Mark Twain and Buffalo Bill. The Wells Fargo state coach used to stop at the hotel. It was great fun and great starting point to explore Main street's many interesting shops.

Very Nice!

The Hotel was built in 1857 and sits in the middle of Placerville, you can walk to everything. One complaint. The staff had you sign a "No Partying" agreement, however, a group of young people were getting very noisy out side of our room and the staff goes home after 10pm so there was no one to enforce the rule.

Historic Cary House Hotel

Placerville has a wonderful "old town" along CA Hwy. 49 complete with lovely shops, delicious eateries, and the Cary House historic 150-year old hotel located in the center of downtown. Beautifully antique appointed rooms, comfortable 4-poster bed, friendly staff, and spacious lobby adorned with stained glass windows. We enjoyed our stay and stayed in a queen "suite" which allowed room for family members to visit and chat.
