The Caliente Tropics Resort

Did not have the amenities of a resort so they should remove the word "resort" as it was more like a motel. They also need ... to provide shower caps. The linen was not too clean or stained. The light was out going up the stairs near our room and that appeared to be dangerous. Also, I was under the impression that the hotel was in walking distance to everything and it was not.

We loved Rock Garden Cafe. Went for late lunch, and next day for breakfast, great menu, so many choices and everything was good. Service a bit slow, but with 50% off on everything, understand overworked staff couldn't go faster. We'd go again at full price.

great hotel
Tracy Nov 11, 2009
The rooms were very nice, staff very friendly. Pool looked good, but we did not have time to swim. There were a few times ... that there was a bug in the bathroom, but I was warned by people from California about bugs, I did not see them but my husband did. Overall, I like the hotel and would stay again if I went to Palm Springs again. We did not eat at the hotel, so not sure on the food/dining. On the Thursday we were there, (sounds like every Thursday) they block off the road for a craft fair, not to far from the hotel, it was a good experience!

A pleasent surprise, for the small price we paid, expected much less. Great location, large rooms, exactly as described, ... maybe better. Super friendly check in staff. Clean rooms, super clean pool and suroundings, enjoyed spa and should have stayed longer. Next time this is the place!! Been in Palm Springs 3x before, paid more, but this was the best

Recent stay
Paulie Sep 28, 2009
While we were lucky to get a newly remodeled room not all of our group was so lucky. There was a very large group at the ... hotel who had party in the pool and hot tub for 2 whole days, we had no chance to use the hot tub during our stay. Loud parties till 2am each night, never had to dodge so many beer bottles and cans on the landing outside the rooms before. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Check in staff we kind and helpful but no secutity at the pool so the group was free to do whatever. Much better hotesl down the road.

We took one look at the place and said we CANNOT stay here. It looked like drug deals or gun fights would start in the ... parking lot at any moment. I was so embarassed that I had choosen this rundown dump for our annivesary weekend. Don't believe the pictures of this place. It was a dump.

Proves that the classics are the best
Eric Aug 26, 2009
We stay here all the time when we go to Palm Springs. There is something these classic independently-owned motels deliver ... that the glitzy high-rise casinos and cheap little chains can't--the true feeling of Palm Springs in its heyday. In this case it's the South Pacific theme complete with tiki torches and Easter Island heads. There are different kinds of palm trees specifically selected for each location and carefully manicured. Also, the pool is ENORMOUS, showing how it goes back to the day when real estate was much cheaper. They say Elvis Presley and Nancy Sinatra stayed here and I'm not surprised. Seems like they'd be perfectly at home here in the 60's. Makes me wonder if I've ever stayed in one of their rooms or sat where they did by the pool. I wish the restaurant/bar (especially the outdoor bar) would re-open. Also, one of the ice machines was empty one evening, then again on the next. There should be a spot-check every 24 hours to make sure both are full. After all, people need ice on 100 degree evenings!

Julie Aug 24, 2009
It was a very nice room..spacious, clean. Other hotels I stayed at only changed the sheets if you were there for more than 3 ... nights...our bedding changed daily, fresh towels. The A/C worked great, it was very warm while we were in Palm Springs. The pool was nice, a little warm but refreshing and the tiki's around the pool were kinda cool. Other than the dumpster diver that was digging in the trash at about midnight and throwing cans and bottles for awhile...the room was pretty quiet. We will definitely go back to that hotel. Great location, within driving distance to alot of the sites...!!

The room we had was pretty cozy and had that island feel to it. The price was inexpensive, but it satisfied our every need. ... the room was clean and comfy especially with the a/c, although a/c was a little loud when cranked up. The location is perfect too. situated just a few minutes from downtown palm springs. did i say that u cant beat the rates too?
