Ace Hotel and Swim Club in Palm Springs, inclusive of over 4.5 acres, accommodates a diner, bar, a spa, two pools, a large event space and 180 rooms. Like its predecessors in the Pacific Northwest, Ace Hotel and Swim Club will mix the high and low to create an unconventional resort property that will be intimate, fun and consistent with the desert aesthetic. The large pool and spa will be open to the public as well as to hotel guests as the Swim Club with poolside bar and patio restaurant. Ace intends to translate the vibrant social energy of their hotels in Portland and Seattle to the laid back, folk-modern dynamic of the desert. To that end, Ace is collaborating with, Commune, the L.A.-based designers to produce a resort particular to the California desert- sensuous, romantic, funky and sustainable. The hotel will be powered by solar arrays that cover the rooftops and innovative fuel cells that should offset our power usage by over 60%. As always at Ace, there will be rooms available for the budget traveler as well as those looking for a more deluxe experience.
The Spa at Ace Hotel & Swim Club is casual, simple, and unfussy. Cedar-lined, indoor treatment rooms with sauna and steam flow out to the large Swim Club pool. Outside, nestled in sage and lavender, you can get a massage in a Mongolian yurt, under colored skylights by artist Margo Victor. Our treatments are inspired by where we are fresh, straightforward and effective. It's a holistic approach to health and wellbeing, not just a luxury.
Our big pool that's open to the public for a fee. Includes the Spa, the Gym, the Short bus - our poolside bar.
The Communeis a 4000 square foot event space available for meetings, receptions, dinners, weddings and pretty much anything else you can think of. The walls open up to a circular pool, an intimate amphitheater, and view of the mountains. We often sponsor events that were open to guests like live musical performances and family suppers. When the Commune is not booked, it is open for use by all guests, kind of like an indoor. outdoor living rooms, only really, really, big.
We bring a portable weber grill to your private patio, terrace or one of the public fireplaces. We bring the all the fixings, equipment and a chef to show you how it's done. You do the grilling. Like at home, only better.
That funky 1967 GMC Handi-bus you see parked cut front can take you to the airport or downtown.
Fireplaces - they are for the public, so feel free to hang out. The beautiful ceramic detail is by the artist Stan Bitters. He also did the barrel vault fireplaces on the private patios. We dig Stan.
A $20 resort fee will be assessed per night per room. The resort fee includes parking, wireless internet, bike rentals, swim club access and 24-hour gym.

We took the old Denny’s restaurant on the property and unearthed a cool terrazzo floor, sandblasted the flagstone walls and recovered the booths in saddle leather. The food redefines roadside diner fare as part of an American peasant food tradition—rustic, direct, resourceful, sensuous, and social. The focus will be on fresh, organic, and local ingredients that expand the stereotypical view of Palm Springs to create a regional cuisine grounded in a sense of place. We understand that food is first and foremost a series of relationships not only in the eating but in the preparing and the sourcing. We believe that cooking should always be inspired but never pretentious and that food should be accessible but not ordinary. In feeling, we imagine this experience like the most amazing backyard barbeque you’ve ever been to.
There is the original old ranch-hand bar, the Amigo Room, which we have restored to its high/low glory and we have added an old ice cream truck- the Short Bus- as our poolside bar. The Trailer bar- an old caravan with graphics by the Date Farmers- will roll up to the Commune for events. Unlike typical Palm Springs bars, we emphasize quality micro-distilleries and fresh mixing ingredients like real, squeezed juices, infusions, and homemade syrups.

We should have stayed at motel 6
Mom & Daughter Dec 11, 2009
On check in we were asked to pay an additional $20 per day as a resort fee to park. Then I asked for a room close to parking ... as my mom has cancer and can't walk far (it wasn't close enough). They could only put us in an upstairs room (no doubles downstairs), no elevator. The decore is lacking (pictures are pieces of paper attached to the wall by binder clips). No carpet only rugs that you trip on. There was no bathtub at $200 a night you expect a few things. The bedspreads looked like potatoe sacks and the wall is covered in canvas material? The rooms are small and so is the TV. The second night we were there they had a band playing right next to us near the pool. At 12:10am I finally called to complain. They finally lowered the music at 12:30 am but wouldn't allow us a late check out for keeping us up late. Don't go here, try the motel 6 next door - better value for your money. ACE is a pet friendly hotel - that's who I'd put up there my dog (not me)..

Surprises
HB Nov 29, 2009
You will get two surprises at least. You will be hit with a $20 resort fee per day that is for parking and extras. Hey, ... this is an ex-Howard Johnson property, not the downtown Westin in L.A. Also, if your room is across from the large recreation hall we heard the disco music from 8 to midnight on Friday. There is no escape if you want it quiet and would think it nice to sit in front of the outdoor gas fireplace outside the room.

Super comfortable vibe with an awesome pool/spa. Very friendly staff, although they didn't follow up on two separate ... requests I made (even if they did so in a super friendly way!). Love the loaner bikes - perfect to tour downtown Palm Springs. In room fridge (and for that matter shelves) filled with undersized and oversized products--booze, chips, etc., that you'd have to be crazy to buy.

Oral Historian and Piano Player Nov 13, 2009
Overall favorable - liked the off beat creative style, inexpensive food choices. Some of the staff were inflexible and ... immature and not willing to cater to my unique needs, e.g. making it impossible for me to use the piano in the bar for practice at any time. Room cleaning was sloppy.

Family on the go. Oct 29, 2009
We were planning our next trip as soon as we got there. Great value, Good location close to downtown PS. Very friendly ... staff, this place was cool enough for my teenage daughter and relaxing enough for me. Weekends are filled with loads of fun indluding a live DJ and snow cones. We stayed until the middle of the week and it was a very different vibe. But still fun, rode the free bikes available to guest. The food was good, you must try the fries. Best coffee! Note, I was surprised to see and additional $20.00 a day charge for "facility use" meaning the pool etc. I am sure it was in the fine print but a little disappointed. Regardless I would still return if the price was right.

We enjoyed the relaxed hip vibe - everyone welcomed. Our favorite restaurant - great food for a great price. Morning Sunday ... breakfast came with our hostess belting out an amazing show-tune as an apology for our wait (which wasn't even bad). Fresh ingrediants, insprired cooking and french pressed coffee - STAFF very accomodating and friendly. OH and Snow Cones by the POOL!

Ace Hotel - Great Value in Palm Springs
Ais Sep 2, 2009
The Ace Hotel has it all. I went with my girlfriends for a weekend get away. We stayed in a King Lounge room, it was ... beautifully furnished and had everything we needed. Very comfortable beds. We spent all day at the pool drinking cocktails and enjoying the atmosphere. DJ at the pool all day along with a bbq and cocktails...sublime. I would not recommend this hotel for children, although there were some there. Children of the four legged type are encouraged and are even allowed in the pool area (not in the pool).

Interesting but not worth a repeat
Sweeper Jul 19, 2009
Pleasant enough place and right near downtown Palm Springs. Many features of the room were more kitschy than practical. The ... toilet/shower area was far from clean on check-in. The overall impression was of an attempt at being clever or unique at the expense of taste, comfort, and simplicity. That could appeal more to others. At check out a heretofore unmentioned "resort fee" left a bad taste. Although such a fee is not uncommon in the Palm Springs area, this particular hotel - certainly not much above a motel - was a far cry from the level of nicer resorts where we have stayed nearby.

Cool property, great service, but loud..
World Traveler Jul 5, 2009
Loved the cool ambiance, retro vibe, terrific pools and very friendly service of The Ace. Fitness center was small and kinda ... "smelly". Room was great, awesome mini bar selection (think bottle service in your room :). However, the guest room doors SLAM shut and there is VERY LITTLE sound proofing, so dont expect a peaceful experience if you wish to go to bed before 11pm or sleep in past 7am. Dog friendly hotel, which is cool, but the hotel doesnt enforce the "keep them on a leash" rule, even though there is signage. Overall, very cool property, but the fact that it was so noisy outside your room was a bit of a bummer. Also thought it was odd that they were so uptight about towels for the pool??? $30 if you didnt return by 8pm and you could only have one per person???

Party in Palm Springs
Dr.Wife.Mommy May 9, 2009
Well...my husband and I took a weekend away and left the baby behind. The location is nice. The food is excellant. The ... saltwater pool is to die for. My only complaints were that the pool area was trashed for several hours after the partying that took place the night before (my husband and I didnt attend the party but heard and could see the evidence) and that the maintenance guys chose to literally start cleaning the spa while my husband and I were sitting in it, relaxing. These were buzz kills but other than that I would recommend the hotel.

HateThisHotel May 8, 2009
Horrible customer service. Very loud music by the pool. Horrible food. Slow room service. None of the rooms (I asked) get ... dark. The windows are covered in a light canvas and the light comes in the room around 6:30am and woke us up each day. The hotel staff couldn't offer so much as another canvas sheet or even a dark tablecloth to help. Their response was, "That's the decor. We have nothing to help make it darker." The rooms are small and tacky.

Traveler Apr 22, 2009
The room decor was the best part of the Ace. Service is NOT their thing, at least not yet for this new hotel. Long lines for ... check-in, restaurant service was the worst I've experienced 3 out of five times I tried to eat there during my weeklong stay I ended up getting up and walking out / or not being seated at all. They're a new hotel and all but come on. Get more staff and or better trained staff. It took 15 minutes for instance for a staff member to search google for tour information. 15 minutes to find my reservation... Lot's of waiting around. The Ace also booked an on-site party over the weekend that took over the pool area and went on LOUDLY until mid morning.
