Dining

King's Highway Restaurant
We took the old Denny's restaurant on the property and unearthed a cool terrazzo floor, sandblasted the flagstone walls and recovered the booths in saddle leather. The food redefines roadside diner fare as part of an American peasant food tradition-rustic, direct, resourceful, sensuous, and social. The focus will be on fresh, organic, and local ingredients that expand the stereotypical view of Palm Springs to create a regional cuisine grounded in a sense of place. We understand that food is first and foremost a series of relationships not only in the eating but in the preparing and the sourcing. We believe that cooking should always be inspired but never pretentious and that food should be accessible but not ordinary. In feeling, we imagine this experience like the most amazing backyard barbeque you've ever been to.
Amigo Bar
There is the original old ranch-hand bar, the Amigo Room, which we have restored to its high/low glory and we have added an old ice cream truck- the Short Bus- as our poolside bar. The Trailer bar- an old caravan with graphics by the Date Farmers- will roll up to the Commune for events. Unlike typical Palm Springs bars, we emphasize quality micro-distilleries and fresh mixing ingredients like real, squeezed juices, infusions, and homemade syrups.

not for kids (unless they're drunk hipsters)

The worst of my life. called them to book a room for a nice getaway for mother's day. myself, wife, and daughters (5 & 7). drove hours to get there to find on arrival the quieter, more kid-friendly pool was closed for weekend. they'd neglected to mention this when i told them i was bringing my daughters to swim and relax for the weekend. considered leaving but they knocked some of the cost off if we would try it the one night. it was after 10 pm and kids were grumpy, so we decided to try it. then: no parking. went back to leave (and should have), used some colorful language at this point but a nice security guard pointed me to a 10 minute spot that he would let us have all night. parked and went to our room - but couldn't find it. it was right around here that i became clark griswold at the end of national lampoon's vacation. in their uber-cool wisdom, not only had they neglected to put a number on our suite, but they had neglected to tell us that our suite had no number on it. now i'm no genius, but i'm not sure that even if i was i would have been able to figure that out. had to have my wife and kids wait outside even longer while i asked for help finding what should have been obvious. bed was comfortable, pool at 9:30 was empty yet there were no seats...? had to evict some towels. then the dj set up. right next to us. and played jay-z. to my daughters. i asked him to reconsider his choice in music, maybe something a little less... explicit. he told me to go away and that he doesn't go to my work to tell me what to do. i showed restraint though used some fairly explicit language myself. manager told him to reconsider his choice in music. shortly after this my wife got back from her massage to discover me and our daughters completely surrounded by smoking, dancing, greasy hipsters waist-deep in the pool with their ashes and our kids. this is when we left. it would have been thirty minutes earlier had i booked a 60 minute massage for my wife instead of the 90. they gave us a *very* hard time about it, but we were not willing to pay for the night we stayed and they finally acquiesced. we payed for food, drinks and the massage. it was not worth it. i wanted to have a nice mother's day getaway and the ace foiled us at every step. maybe if the other pool had been open it would have been different, but i don't think we'll ever know.

Dressed up Strip Motel

When I told a friend that I had booked a room at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs, he flatly replied, that it was like a glorified strip Motel. I have to say, he was not too far off the mark. The room I stayed in featured a comfortable King Size bed, but it didn't make up for the stained canvas that covered the walls of the room. I assume it was meant to give the place a hipster/ beach vibe but frankly, it just looked like something a college student would do to cover up the chipping paint on the walls of their dorm room. Sure, there was a big screen TV on the wall, but considering that a day into my stay, something went wrong with the cable and only 3 or 4 channels were available kind of took the fun out of it. Sadly, the staff didn't seem too apologetic and ultimately, it was never fixed. Most hotels I've stayed in, even the low end variety manage to give you moisturizer. However, the Ace seems to have brokered some deal with the company Malin & Goetz so you only get one little sample packet when you arrive. I know this sounds nitpicky, but the substantial price of a room at the ACE should at least get you body lotion. I have no complaints about the pool. It was a nice space with plenty of room. Of course, after 11 am the house music kicks in and suddenly relaxing by the pool, becomes rocking by the pool. But at least I got a few good hours in each morning. I can't really complain about the staff, but I can't sing their praises. They were never overly helpful and always seemed slightly annoyed when you asked a question. This is normal of 20 something year olds who are trying to be cool. Finally, my biggest pet peeve was parking. Every night I would return to the hotel only to be delegated to a parking space outside the confines of the hotel. Apparently, those visiting the restaurant, bar and nightly pool party have preference over hotel guests.

Great Personality - Just a Couple Annoyances

The personality of this place is really fun (look at the website, and you'll figure out what they're going for in 2 seconds), and it was totally sincere. The rooms were comfortable and clean - not big or anything, but fine for my tastes. The restaurant onsite was awesome - great drinks, great food. The Pool and hot-tub were huge, and other people staying there were the folks you like to meet on trips. Bingo night was a totally memorable experience - Linda, the MC is an ex-broadway star, who couldn't be more perfect for her role in it. My two concerns: (1) A $20/day Resort Fee that they didn't show in any pricing on their site or anywhere else, just tacked on once you get there. (2) The staff was great and very friendly, but for just a couple members of the staff (mainly one waiter in the restaurant), that attitude started to creep on arrogance, which is really a shame because that personality really defines the place and gives Ace its personality. All that said - I would recommend the place in a heartbeat and would go back there if I'm back in Palm Springs.

Desert Hiking Trip...Oh and Dark n Stormy Cocktails by the pool!

A great drive to Palm Springs and was really made to feel welcome at the Ace by the friendly staff : ) Great room and very relaxed easy going atmosphere and lots of good music playing. Went to the bar that evening and a great bartender made fantastic drinks and helped us plan our few days of hiking and gave us recommendations for places to eat! There is a $20 a day resort fee on top that you have to pay for parking , pool , gym etc but well worth it and the facilities are really great even a ping-pong table!!!! Go off-peak and relax or go at the weekend and party its your choice! Top Banana!!!!!!!! : )

We only stay here

Stayed at several Palm Springs properties over the past five years. The Ace is far and away the most swanky, most comfortable, has the nicest staff, neatest hotel guests, hippest vibe, and is the best all around value. We typically hit up the cheaper summer months, which are still very busy with travelers from all over. We never have a complaint, and anytime an error has been made (wrong room type, food order not customized properly) we were comped something (a nicer room, free cocktails) without even asking. This sort of attention to detail carries through to the room and hotel design, choice of food/drink/services, and allows for a seemless, disruption-free experience. In short, the Ace takes the best of what Palm Springs has to offer and packages it perfectly for style-conscious, discerning and budget-minded folks.

Hip and Swank in the Desert!

Ace Hotel and Swim Club in Palm Springs is a hip and swank getaway in the desert. Great party scene at the pool, and the funky, vintage decor throughout the grounds added greatly to the experience. Rooms were small but comfortable. The restaurant had excellent food and service. The free bicycle rentals were a great amenity. A few nits. The locks and doors didn't work smoothly and the staff failed to tell us that we had complimentary beverages outside of our door when we checked in. So these went to waste. But overall, the staff was friendly and I'd enthusiastically recommend the Ace Hotel and Swim Club to friends and family.

Fun Hotel

What a great hotel. I was a bit worried at first as it was the only place i could get into over the Easter Break. What a surprise. I was probably a bit over age so the noise of the guests having so much fun bothered me a little but for young people this place is perfect. fun and hip rooms all quality mid century with modern bathrooms and up to date air con that didn't keep me up comfortable beds with nice linens, super clean and to top that the food in the resturant was amazing and all the staff were friendly and helpful. I loved it and boy am i fussy. Oh and what a great price including free parking ,wifi these guys no what they're doing. keep up the good work and i forgot to mention all the staff are hot i would love to know who's on the selection panel.
