A Great Time In Monteray

We spent 3 nights at the Anton. The staff was very helpful, and friendly. Probably the best part of our stay was the continental breakfast and wine reception. The rooms were clean and fairly large. There was no microwave,no fridge etc. The TV was nice flat screen with lots of channels. But was not in front of the bed, instead on the left side. Overall really a good stay.

Would not recommend

I am not one to usually give a bad review but this experience with this hotel was very disappointing. I booked through [...] and then called the hotel to let them know I would be arriving late since the desk is not manned all hours of the day. They then told me that they didn't have a room for me. Finally they called me back and had me booked across the street at the Sea Breeze Inn. Let me just say that my experience at the Sea Breeze Inn was wonderful! They were extraordinary and very helpful and attentive. My last night I had to move back to the the Anton. First of all, they had to move my room around from my initial spot. I had to leave at 4:00 am the next day to get to the airport and they told me they would give me a wake up call and call a cab. I come back later and was told that they do not do wake up calls and so they moved my room so I could have an alarm clock. The alarm clock was honestly barely audible. I then called the cab company that they told me would be picking me up to confirm and the company had nothing scheduled. I then set this up and the cab was right on time. I then called to the sister property to let them know about the alarm clock and they offered to moved me down the street to their sister property but it was already almost 10:00 pm and I had to get up at 4:00 am so I chose to stay. They then brought me a new alarm clock. I manager at the sister property was extremely helpful and accomodating as well but my experience with the Anton Inn itself was very poor.

Average Stay for Five Star Price

I travel at least monthly, often several times/month, and have been in hotels ranging from one star to five star. This was a pricey hotel that should have delivered on comfort, at least similar to a three star hotel. It didn't..the bed was terrible, the pillows were flat, the sheets and blankets were thin, there was one washcloth for the two of us and there are no amenities available such as fitness or pool. The hair dryer did not work. It was very clean and appeared to have been recently remodeled. The best thing I can say about it is the flat screen tv had lots of channels to choose from. I will, next time there is a scarcity of rooms in Monterey, stay in Salinas at a well known chain hotel...at least there I know the beds are comfortable.

Go for the whale watch using Monterey Bay Whale Watch...they are the only ones with a marine biologist on board, and she made the experience unique and educational.

Great hotel

This was a trip that could have ended in a nightmare, but because of the great service from the Anton Inn and their sister property, the trip was a dream! When we arrived, the friendly front desk clerk was setting up the cheese plate for the reception. On finding out our name, he apologized profusely and said that they had overbooked due to someone not 'closing out' the [...] site, and that we were going to have to go to their sister hotel. We have heard many horror stories of people getting put in bad rooms when this happens, but not at the Anton Inn! We not only got a room closer to the beach, but we were upgraded from the one we had originally booked. Needless to say we were very happy, and will book with the Anton Inn again. Both hotels were near each other, so we can say that the whole area was very quiet and restful and close to dining, shopping, and the beach.Because we did not actually stay at the Anton Inn, the room ratings are for the hotel we actually stayed at.

Anton Inn

This was my second stay at the Anton Inn, and probably my last. The rooms are quiet and have good ammenities. But, their pet policy is unclear--the last time I stayed there was no pet fee. On the [...] site there is no pet fee, but on the hotel's web site it says there are no pets. The hotel wanted to charge me $25 per pet/per night. But the worst part of the stay was getting a double bed when I had pre-paid for a king size. I phoned the hotel to tell them I would be late. And when we arrived to the hotel late that night I did not appreciate getting a much smaller bed than I had paid for--and we could not get it sorted out until the morning because the office was closed when we arrived. The hotel was not full, and this was a business trip. The room we were moved to did not have a refrigerator, and we had to ask two different managers for one. It was a lot of hassle I didn't need on a business trip.

Simple, Nice

This was a nice place to hang my hat during a business trip to the Monterey area. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Continental breakfast and daily wine/snack hours were a plus. I never could get the wireless Internet to work for long, even though staff upgraded me to a nicer room for no charge. Despite this problem, I thought this inn was a good deal for the price.

A great place in all respects

Everything about Anton Inn was great... above the bustle of Monterey, a couple blocks from beaches and tidepools, nice clean rooms, courteous and helpful staff, complimentery continental breakfast(including french toast on weekend) and wine, crackers and cheese in afternoon, fair prices.

Go to the end of Lighthouse Ave., hang a right and you'll be at some great beach access, then you can follow Ocean View Blvd. all the way to Monterey along bay, great bike/hike trail as well.

Great find

The Anton Inn is a great value. It's within walking distance of the ocean and is in a quiet location. The afternoon wine and cheese was a nice surprise. Rooms are spotless with nice linens - loved the duvets on the bed. We would have liked it if there were more than one chair in the room and/or an additional desk/table to put things on, but otherwise it was great. The continental breakfast was nice and included fresh fruit salad. We'll definitely come back again.

Great little place

I LOVED my room! Not fancy or new; a combination of funky and hip. Definitely not cookie-cutter, which is a huge plus in my book. The fireplace doubled as the heater, great flat-screen TV, nice hot shower, very clean. The office people were amazing--knocked themselves out to be helpful. They even had wine and cheese in the evening. The wifi didn't reach my room so they offered to change rooms, but it was no problem to go to the office. A very nice home-away-from-home during my workshop.

An Choi, the Asian fusion restaurant just down the street, was fabulous. The Vietnamese Grilled Chicken Salad was delicious, as was the Pad Thai. Everything is very fresh.
