Thanksgiving 2010
Hotel did not have a record of our reservation. Don't know if this was an [...] issue or the hotel, but fortunately they did manage to get us a room quite comparable to the one we had reserved (queen vs king) given that it was Thanksgiving. Even sent us a bottle of wine and fruit/cheese plate for the inconvenience. Room was spacious and nice. Only complaint was proximity to train tracks, with trains starting around 5am. No escaping. Hotel located in renovated area of shops and restaurants. Enjoyed more than hotel several blocks away that we stayed in previously, even with the noise.

A Good Night's Stay
Nice, but older hotel, one block from train station. Room was clean and check-in/out staff was prompt and polite. Bathroom had some mold spots on the wall - could use a fresh paint job. Walls are thin - you can hear your neighbors but luckily they were quiet. Beware, there is NO free parking at this facility. You choice is $20 valet or an expensive parking garage 2 blocks away. You do hear the trains early in the morning (4:30AM) but they weren't that bad. It beats staying in downtown Oakland or by the airport.

Definately not luxury
Room was a little shabby.Cupboard door hanging off when opened. The staff however were excellent and very accomodating. The hotel room is very noisy at night due to the constant train whistles when coming to the crossing, which is very close!!!!!

Great Location with many things to do
We were there for classes and had a great weekend in the redwoods, walking around downtown, the farmers market was in the square, great food and music all weekend. Do not stay on the city side of the hotel the train comes buy every half hour blowing the horn- early morning and late evening!! very loud!

Best in the area
This was a great hotel considering I needed to stay in San Fran for business but couldn't find a room there last minute. The staff was very nice and informative when I asked multiple questions about transportation in the area. I never took the Ferry but it's literally right next door. The free shuttle to the BART station was very fast and the commute from Hotel to Union was probably 20-25 minutes total. The room was very clean and I liked everything except the TV/Remote. The remote took multiple tries to change channels or I'd have to hold it at some random angle for better results. I asked front desk for a new one and they sent it right up... but I was told they are all bad because the remotes don't work with the TV's well. That's a problem for me... maybe not for you. Besides the TV and perhaps the fact I had to order food from somewhere else late night... I did enjoy my stay.

No nonsense.
Good Location
Nice hotel in a great location if you want to be able to walk and use public transportation in the Oakland area. Next to train station, so expect train track rumble and horns. Otherwise, it's great.

Four stars for the Waterfront
The rooms at the Waterfront are large and kept very, very clean. I didn't find noise a problem until the trains started up at 5 AM. Very loud but hey, you are in a major city. The location by the bay more than makes up for the early wake up call.Only two minor complaints: Only one working machine in the fitness room, and in a tiny space with no disinfectant wipes. Just lucky to get to use it a couple of times. And, the lack of decaf in the lobby for two consecutive days. Sometimes it's the little things. The rate I got on [...] Parking is valet and $20 a day, something you won't find on their website.
