Wonderful Hotel.
Everything was great, except there was no mention that the hotel was under construction, with a new office building being constructed. And that the workers would start jack hammering at 7am. Otherwise a great deal.

Short walk from hotel
Whole Foods is around the corner and so are movie theaters. Instead of room service and a movie...go outside a walk a block.

My weekend stay at Island Hotel
Very nice rooms, but they had no coffee - you have to walk down to the lobby to get coffee or order room service coffee. There is a daily charge for accessing internet and the service is difficult to navigate and get online. The pool has a wonderful fireplace by it, but the pool is by some kind of huge industrial air conditioning unit so the pool area is so noisy it's like being on the runway at the airport - not relaxing. Otherwise, good service, great place.

Great Getaway
The Island Hotel was wonderful. The bed was like sleeping between two clouds and we are planning to install a shower just like it. Yes, the shower drained slow. We knew from reading reviews before leaving that we had to pay to park the car--$32 each night. Knowing this, we did not tip the valet parkers. Breakfast in the dining room was good and I have to say it was served beautifully and the coffee was delicious and hot. I recommend The Island and would definitely stay there again.

Missing Amenities
I so enjoyed my stay at the Island Holtel. The staff and service were wonderful. However, the area lacking is amenities. Coffee was not available in the room, a very limited water supply and the refrigerator was stocked with hotel bar items. As a health conscience individual, I like to have my own snack items and beverages; there was no place to keep them. Although the morning coffee service in the hotel lobby was lovely, I found it to be very inconvenient to have to get dressed and go downstairs.

Location, location, location
Close to everything; the beach, Balboa Island, Pelican Hill for golf, and shopping. I was upset the room did not have a coffee maker as there was free coffee (that was ho hum) in the lobby from 6:00-9:00 am. Also, we were given a handicap room which we had not requested and subsequently had to move to another room. WhenI I complained tthe person with whom I was speaking was very rude. I would not call this a 5 star hotel, more like a 31/2. I

Weekend Getaway
Conveniently located to the Fashion Island mall if you're inclined to shop at high end stores -- does offer many additional dining options. A bit further from the ocean if you desire the beach. Valet only parking at $32 per night was an unexpected charge. Room had a bit of a paint smell which cleared out with an open window. Staff was very friendly. Pool, jacuzzi and fitness room were all very nice outside the insistence of people to smoke.
