Nice Ocean View

I booked a delex room but once we were showed the room it was run down old. I upgraded to a ocean view room well worth it. The only thing I found a problem was out bathroom where we shower there was a window everyone passing could see you taking a shower from chest up. the price was alittle high for the size of the room.

Great place!

The hotel was more then I expected. Very nice room for me and my two other friends. From other reviews I expected to have an old messed up room, which I still wanted because it was right across from my favorite bar and we just needed somewhere to stay, but it turned out to be a well kept room. Maybe it was renovated or who knows what, but it did the job and some!! Will definitely stay here again!!!

Great Stay

The hotel was great. In comparison to some negative feedback I read about the Balboa Inn, it's a great place.... Consider it was built in 1929, been renovated several times, the deluxe room has a charming boutique air. The location is the best in the area! It was comfortable, clean.... My room had a gas log fireplace. Hotel staff very friendly and helpful. Noise? Yeah, it's a resort town..... People are there to have a good time.... There's going to be some noise, especially during the summer season. Great restaurants all around.... Bike path right in front of the hotel for biking, skating, walking along the beach. I definitely will return for a stay at the Balboa Inn.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

Must check out the shops on Marine Ave. on Balboa Island. 8 tenths of a mile walk from the hotel. Take the ferry across to Balboa Island, turn right down the sidewalk, enjoy spectacular views of the harbor and the gorgeous architecture of the homes along the water, turn left on Marine Ave and the shops are straight ahead. The Village Inn, one of the first places you come too, a cute restaurant and lounge has live music almost every night. If you feel like walking, keep going across the bridge, up the hill and turn right on PCH to Fashion Island Mall.... 1.5 miles from the Island. The ferry runs late (I believe till midnight).

Quiet with large room

Nice, staff. Could open the windows and hear the waves. Room was large as was the bathroom. Big tub. Continental breakfast on time and coffee was hot. Met my needs and was much quieter than I had expected. Was able to run along the beach path and watch the sun rise before my conference started.

Shopping tip: Short drive from hotel

I don't shop, but the Fashion Mall was near my conference. It was a short 12 minute drive away with literally no traffic on the route.

Old & scary

This was the most creepy hotel I have ever been in my life. It was old and small. I did not have a quite sleep whatsoever. You could hear everything that was going on. I definitely do not recommend this place for anyone. And the price is ridiculous.. Not worth a hundred and something.. I'll pay $40 max

Good location but... u get what u pay 4

When arriving, I was given the option to upgrade. When see the original room, this option became a 'no brainer'. The upgrade was 3x bigger with fireplace and tub. After spending $75 more and moving into the room, we found the fireplace not to work, the AC dripping water profusely over the fireplace, the pillows were terrible, and the fridge smelled awful. We moved rooms and found some problems in that one as well. When you are staying at this hotel, you are paying for the location.

Great location, rude service

This is positively the best location for a vacation with kids. Enjoyed the continental breakfast every morning on the balcony. Convenient to Balboa, the beach, bike rentals. Great rooms for families. Pool area was extremely small but doable as long as you aren't a big swimmer. Parking was a real problem. I wasn't told about valet until the last day. It would have been cheaper than all the quarters we fed the meters and the 2 $50 parking tickets we received for being 5 minutes late. I must say though, our trip was ruined by the rude staff. Very nice on check-in. And they allowed dogs. But $50 the first night then $25. Pretty steep, when they are actually easier and cleaner than the kids. But nice they're allowed. It seemed management was watching our every move, as if they thought I was sneaking in a bunch of roudy teenagers. They actually called and left messages on 3 different phones that our dog was barking. Our dog only barks if someone were to have entered the room. This is a beautiful hotel, a perfect spot, but the employees positively ruined the vacation for me. I have never in my life been treated with so little respect. When they get new management I would love to go back.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Everything is within walking distance. Don't bring a car. It costs more than the room, and you can walk to everything. Boardwalk, grass, beach, firepits, rentals, dining, bars, arcade, island....it's the perfect place.
