Pleasant stay with a few caveats.

After a long drive to get to Mountain View, I then drove for almost 40 minutes trying to find the Residence Inn. I even had my TomTom with me and STILL had trouble. I called the desk clerk twice and told them I was right across from the Towne and Country shopping center, next to the university. They said that I was 'right there' and to keep looking. They did tell me not to pay attention to the numbers on El Camino Real because they don't make sense. Boy, were they right about that. Anyway, after 40 minutes of NOT finding the hotel, a friend who lives in the area called. I explained where I was and he guided me right to the place. I had been driving around looking for the place, 5 miles north of the hotel! I easily found it after that, but it was very frustrating. Once I arrived, the desk clerk was very nice and even offered me whatever I wanted from their little mini store to make up for her poor directions. I thanked her and just took a bottle of water since I was exhausted and just wanted to crash. Then I parked and took my two 12 pouns dogs out of the car to walk them after our long drive. The desk clerk came running out and said that she didn't know I had dogs, even though I had indicated it on my reservation. She said that there is a $75 non-refundable pet fee. It is the same fee if you stay for one day or one month. Well, by this time I'm fit to be tied but way too stressed out, hungry and tired to fight her on it or find another hotel. So I just paid the $75 and moved on. The room was nice- large and quiet and pretty clean, but the area for walking the dogs looks nothing like the large expanse of grass in the photos. It is grassy but very small, and up against El Camino so it doesn't feel that safe. The area was clean but very shady which means it was damp and the dogs picked up quite a bit of dirt. Mostly it was a decent stay, but the extra surprise fee, poor directions and exterior not being like it was in the photos were a problem for me.

Money-saving tip: In Hotel

If you have a pet and are going to only be there for one night, the pet fee is excessive. If you're going to be there a month, $75 is a great deal.
