Amazing stay

We had a wonderful time from the moment we pulled up to valet, they were friendly, social and attentive. In fact all staff we encountered were super friendly and helpful. The plaza is in the perfect location, within walking distance to aquarium, cannery row, plenty of restaurant's, Starbuck's, Peet's and the fisherman's wharf if you mind a little longer walk. They also have a free shuttle, just make sure to call and make arrangements ahead of time to ensure your ride. There is no pool... but as my kids said, "the ocean is our swimming pool" small area of beach access where you can go kayaking.

Great Hotel

The location is wonderful, right near the cannery row. Most attractions within walking distance. Definitely a 5 star hotel. Great service, valet parking included (which is needed in prime time Monterey, like the 4th of Julyy holiday) Staff was helpful and prompt. We did two days of bike riding. Rode north 10 miles the first day, rode south to Carmel the second. Defiintely the Prettiest coastline in the United states.. Easy ride but the scenery cannot be beat.. Watch the head winds when riding back from Carmel!! :)

Monterey Plaza Hotel

This hotel was nicely located to Cannery Row and the Aquarium. We walked from the hotel to the outlet shops that are just beyond the Aquarium and back to the hotel, with a 2 year old and a pregnant mommy. If mom had been wearing better shoes it would have been easier, but even still it was not too far. We ate at the the hotel restaurant for dinner and breakfast (the Duck Grill) and the food was very well done. The staff was friendly, helpful, and kid friendly.[...]

Great Hotel but....

The reception and the service at the hotel were outstanding and very professional. The only desapointment was when we declined an offer for a room upgrade (for an extra $100/night) I felt that we were deliberately "pusnished" by gettting what must be the worst room in the hotel (right on the main street, second floor, small and very noisy). Still the room was very comfortable, with all the conveniences, woking appliances and internet, and perfectly well serviced. So no major complaints. Again virtually perfect service from the entire staff.

Scenic, exquisite and comfortable…

The Monterey Plaza Hotel is a beautiful oceanfront hotel that has view, comfort, class with a friendly, helpful, and well-trained staff. It combines what we East Coasters look for in a CA resort hotel… chic laidback elegance delivered by a staff that genuinely seems to care about your stay. My check-out experience typifies the staff's training and care. The attendant that delivered my car to me asked if I needed directions and suggested a better route than my GPS had plotted for that time of the day. It is always the little things that make the difference from average to great. Having said the above I am disappointed that the hotel imposed an additional UNDISCLOSED $25.00 Resort Fee per night. [...] In fairness to the hotel the fee covers valet, internet and other fees up-charged by other hotels. [...]

Wonderful weekend getaway . . .

First time at this hotel and already planning on a return visit. Simply put, this visit was relaxing; it was a perfect weekend getaway. We had no agenda and loved just doing "whatever," and the MPH really made the "whatever" fun!

Unbeatable locatio, even better spa!

Monterey Plaza is a fantastic base for traveling the breath taking coast. The hotel staff is plentiful, helpful, friendly and run the hotel at a top notch standard. Our ocean view room (upgraded for free!) made sleeping with the waves peaceful and otter watching enjoyable with binoculars in the room to aid. The most enjoyable part was the spa. There is a $25 per day charge automatically billed to your rooms so be sure to take a steam shower and hot tub in the out door deck with breath taking ocean views.

Great location, service, and view

Booked an inland view room. When we arrived, the staff offered us an upgrade to a full bay view room for a good rate. The view of the bay is great from the balcony. We watched sea otters and sea lions swimming. The room was spotless. The staff was very friendly and helpful with local reservations. While we didn't get a chance to use the spa, it looked very inviting. The only downside, I was serenaded by the sound of sea lions all night. They are far enough away where only a very light sleeper will hear them. My wife slept like a baby and I slept pretty well myself. The restaurant and stores in the area can be a bit pricey, but the clam chowder is totally worth it.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

The whale watching tours are great and you can walk to the pier from the hotel. The morning tours tend to see the whales a bit more active than the afternoon tours. The afternoon tours did seem to offer clearer skies and warmer weather. Either tour makes for a great trip. Bring a camera that focuses quickly!
