wish i could have stayed longer
We basically just slept here, it was a pleasant experience. I love that they had more than 3 channels on tv unlike some cheap hotels. Didn't use the pool but I will next time. I will certainly be back.

Clarion Hotel MOnteray
Place looked like a converted economy studio apartment housing. Room was clean, everything worked. Would pass for a $60 room most anywhere else except Monteray. Breakfast area was well staffed. Poor girls worked like crazy keeping up. Kudos to them.

You get what you pay for
First of all, this location does not have a fitness center, contrary to the website, so don't bother lugging your workout stuff. There is plenty of walking and biking to be had in town, so that wasn't an issue as much. The rooms are small, clean but minimal. The smell though... there was a persistent musty smell when I first arrived. I aired out the room a bit, sprayed some perfume, and turned on the fan, which helped. For the price though, it wasn't bad. Breakfast is in a small room, so arrive early if you plan on sitting down. Once you leave the hotel though, it's all great. The location is fantastic-- if you walk downtown, you'll pass many cafes, restaurants, and shopping locations. Cooper Museum store is not to be missed! The Cannery Row, Fisherman's Wharf, and the Aquarium are just a couple miles away, and it's a very pleasant walk. Lots of things to see! Also, the trail that goes along the beach will take you all the way to Pacific Grove. A lot of gorgeous views and marine life -- otters, seals, pelicans... wonderful.

Short walk from hotel
Near the Aquarium (about 2 miles from the hotel) there is Z Folio Gallery, which sells jewelry, glassworks, some scarves by indie designers. can be pricey, but unique and beautiful.

I would stay there again
The hot tub and pool are great after a long walk. The location is great. I couldn't hear traffic yet there was a shopping mall with a drug store and a grocery store around the corner. I found old gum on the florr next to the bed. I had to ask for the soap and shampoo. The staff only spook Spanish. It was over all great for the price.

Shabby and in desperate need for renovation
This hotel was a disaster. Rooms are dark and tiny. Walls are scratched and spotted. Bathrooms are tiny. We had to pay extra to upgrade to a bigger room to survive a night there. Neither room was properly cleaned. Fridge was dirty inside. There was a lipstick under one of the night stands. Worst of all was their complimentary breakfast. The cafeteria (aka Fireside room) is super small with 4 tables inside and 2 small tables outside. The food was rather sub-par. And guests had to clean the tables after themselves cleaning off the plates and piling them in front of the fireplace. This is something I would expect for $40 a night, but definitely not for $135. I would avoid this hotel at all costs.

Good stay
The room was relatively small but has two rooms. Each room has a queen bed, which worked perfectly for us four. It is rare to find indoor pool in california, which is a plus. Breakfast is good; oat meal was actually cooked (not instant food) and tasty. Overall it was a nice pleasant stay.

Golf vacation
Breakfast is not servrd till 7:30 -7:45 some days, no way to get something to eat before golf. Small room, upstairs and no elevator. Location good and front dest are very good. No problem with late check in or late check out. Good pillows. T.v was old and internet was down during part of our stay.

Clarion Montery
I didn't expect much and got less. I did not plan on spending a lot of time in the room and was not disappointed. The room was probably clean but the lighting was so bad that I could not tell you that for sure. The continental breakfast was ok but there was no place to sit with my food. Overall I doubt that I would stay at a Clrion again.

Weekend Getaway
The wife and I came to Monterey for an overnight vacation. The room, while a little small, fit our needs perfectly. The bed was very comfortable and the room very clean. My only complaint: I wish the continental breakfast was open at least till checkout.

Clean & comfortable one night stay
The staff were friendly. The room was clean and comfortable. Comfortable bed and pillows. Quiet at night, even for a New Year's Eve night. The room wasn't large, but it was perfect for a one night stay. Pleasantly surprised that there was a fridge/freezer and microwave. Ice machine was out of order, unfortunately. Didn't get a chance to use the pool/hot tub, unfortunately. Very happy with the continental breakfast: hot waffles, cereal, pastries, apples, coffee, milk, and orange juice. The hotel was located in an area that didn't have much traffic. Great value (pretty much no complaints); I just personally would have liked to spend a little less on a hotel stay. I would definitely keep in mind Clarion for future hotel stays.
