Clean & comfortable one night stay
The staff were friendly. The room was clean and comfortable. Comfortable bed and pillows. Quiet at night, even for a New Year's Eve night. The room wasn't large, but it was perfect for a one night stay. Pleasantly surprised that there was a fridge/freezer and microwave. Ice machine was out of order, unfortunately. Didn't get a chance to use the pool/hot tub, unfortunately. Very happy with the continental breakfast: hot waffles, cereal, pastries, apples, coffee, milk, and orange juice. The hotel was located in an area that didn't have much traffic. Great value (pretty much no complaints); I just personally would have liked to spend a little less on a hotel stay. I would definitely keep in mind Clarion for future hotel stays.

Just adequate
My wife and I stayed at the Clarion over the weekend. The Staff was helpfull and the room was small but clean. All in all, it was adequate but nothing special, just a notch above a Motel 6. However, it appears the place is in bad need of an update. On Saturday, some of the limited parking was blocked off to use as workspace for people working on carpeting and they needed the work space. But what work that had been done in my room looked like it had been done by a Do It yourselfer. (Tile not completly grouted and, bathtub plug not installed correctly etc.) Because of this, I'd say it is a little overpriced.

Fishermans Warf is just a short drive down the road but for my money I'd go to Cannery Row as there is many more choices.

Nice surprise in Monterey!
Great rooms. Actually got a room with 2 queen beds and was thrilled we ended up with two actual bedrooms! All new inside and very comfortable beds, etc. They do need to upgrade the hallways. Great place I'd stay again in particular if you have kids :)

Hotel with no shower in room
I rarely write bad reviews but this time it was most frustrating and worst vacation ever; we spent whole day on sand beaches and when we wanted to have shower was not working; It didn't seem to be a temporary issue as shower was rusty and there wasn't enough pressure for shower to work at all; I am 100% sure that room was never inspected before assignment, we confirmed the arrival almost around 10 hours in advance. It wasn't the end of story, we did complained about it but maintenance people were not available; If you don't like to have bath every day, this may be your hotel else stay away from this hotel and go find a better one or even a 2-star hotel would be much better than it instead;

Clean room, friendly service, but.....
This hotel is a good option for those who are staying for only a night. The price for a room is reasonable for the Monterey area. The rooms are clean and the staff are friendly. We liked that the 2nd bed was in an adjoined room with a door. And the heated indoor pool is a nice option. With that being said, there were some minor issues. The rooms need updating (at the very least, a coat of paint), the bathroom is SMALL (no counter space at all, none!), and the beds are uncomfortable (I felt like I was lying on a slab of cement). Side notes: The hotel is a short drive from the Aquarium and Fisherman's Wharf,but parking is costly and most parking change machines only took cash (no debit or credit cards). As much as we liked the price of the hotel, next time, it might be more cost effective to look at spending more on a hotel that is within walking distance to the attractions and the beach.

Very nice place: the pool looked great, though I did not use it. Staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Breakfast wasn't very good (no eggs, only waffles), very good location.

Below Standard Accomodations
I flew to CA to meet with my daughter that had been working in LA during Fashion Week. We were going to enjoy some "mother/daughter time" together after a very exciting experience for her. After checking in to the Clarion I found the room and attached bathroom to be very small with an odd/wet/somewhat musty odor. Although housekeeping seemed to have cleaned the room well, something quickly caused my allergies to flare up! The pictures on the website were very misleading, the room and lobby decor is dated. Some of the furniture in the room was mis-matched... I checked-out of the hotel 30 minutes after checking in; after paying for a one-night stay as a late cancellation fee. After 16 hours of travel I was exhausted, but needed to feel comfortable in a hotel room that I and my daughter were to occupy for 6 nights. I rushed to tour a seemingly upscale hotel minutes up the road and was relieved to find accommodations and appointments of which I and my family are accustomed during travel.

Tiniest room I've ever stayed in!
We stayed at the Clarion for one night on a weekend getaway to Monterey. We previously lived in Monterey and thought we were familiar with the local motels, but we must have never noticed this one. Check in was quick and trouble free. Our room was clean, but it was the smallest, most uninviting motel room I have ever stayed in. It had a strange smell, which I assumed was some kind of cleaning agent. It looks like they tried to spruce it up by putting in some nice details like crown molding, but the furniture looks like it has been there since the 80's. The floor of the bathtub slanted down towards the drain at enough of an angle that my husband slipped and warned me about it. The parking lot appears to be too small for the number of rooms the hotel has. We returned at 10:00 pm and got the last spot. I assume the car behind us had to find parking on the street. On a positive note, the motel was sold out and I expected it to be fairly noisy but it was very quiet both at night and in the morning. The bed had nice comfortable pillows. The complimentary continental breakfast included cold serial, toast, muffins, hard boiled eggs, biscuits and gravy, sweet rolls and the unexpected treat of an employee making delicious belgian waffles. That was a great way to start our day.
