Great find!

Booked this hotel at the last minute while driving to Monterey and had no idea what to expect. It was a wonderful surprise and we will definitely stay there again when we return to Monterey! Staff was very nice, room was comfortable and we walked to the marina for breakfast in the morning (awesome crepes!).

2 Days in Monterey

Good location where you can walk about half a mile to fisherman's wharf. and downtown. Trader Joe's 2 blocks and Denny's across the street. My room was apparently low end. It was small but had a large flat screen TV. The reception on the TV was not good. Many channels had snowy reception. WiFi worked ok. Plenty of hot water in shower. There was some construction going on so areas were fenced off. No AC in my room so in an uncommon heat wave might be a problem. It was winter so the electric wall heater came on a lot. The bed was too soft. It sank in the middle. Was not firm enough for average person. OK if you sleep all night on your back but if on your side expect a back ache. I don't like hard beds, any average hotel bed is usually good enough for me except this one. Maybe other rooms have better beds.

Cute Hotel in Great Location

We stayed for a night in a King deluxe room with fireplace. The room was cute with a nice brick fireplace. The room was very large and had a separate shower and bath. The hotel was in walking distance to Alvarado street which had great restaurants, bars and shops. Overall it was a lovely stay.

It's not great, but it works

It was all together an ok experience, 2.5 stars. We booked a queen bed, but they would only give us double bed rooms. Our first night, they put us in a room in the corner of the property. Wi-fi did not work there, and our window faced a bar where someone was playing the tuba the whole night. We requested a different room the second day, which was more centrally located. Wifi was much improved, but they were playing loud music at the hotel bar past midnight. The room was ok. Looks like they're doing renovations on some of the buildings, but it felt like they tried harder to spruce up their restaurant / bar than the rooms themselves. Parking was very difficult to find as well. A pro was their pet policy. Very pet friendly, and gave us a crate for her. The crate had a bone inside for her, which was a nice touch. Next time, I'd probably just pay a little more and stay at Hotel Abrego which is down the street and a lot nicer.

Cozy Hotel & Spa in Town

I liked the room (a cozy queen room) that was tastefully done. From the name "Garden Hotel & Spa", I expected to be in a garden but it was in the middle of the city. However it was not noisy at all and it was actually a good location to walk downtown. One downside is that since we checked in at around 6pm and the spa was about to close at 7pm, we could not take advantage of staying at the spa hotel. The spa deal was not included in this hotel deal so it would have to be additional $70 per person at least.

Santa Barbara great location

It's right on the main strip, close to all the shops etc. Hotel itself is definitely nothing special. Room was loud as laundry carts pushed past repeatedly and clearly no soundproofing at all. Staff was less than stellar, couldn't figure out how to get us an early check-in even though rooms available or even figure out how to contact us when room was ready. Location is great but extremely expensive for a run down hotel.

A good, slightly older room in Monterey with a convenient location

Casa Munras Garden Hotel & Spa was being upgraded during our stay with fencing in lots of places marking construction. The lobby area was very nice, and the staff was very friendly. In contrast, I believe we had a room that was still to be upgraded, and had an older style feel and smell to the room. The walls seemed a bit thin, with noise coming in readily easily when people walked in the stairs nearby, but fortunately, given the layout of the units, there wasn't much foot traffic, and noise stayed to a minimum. It was ok in comfort, clean, but didn't have the same feel as newer rooms found in the bigger chains. Overall, the hotel had very convenient location, close by to Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and for the price provides a good overall value for those that just want a place to sleep for the night. I would more fully recommend the hotel if the rooms were upgraded; as-is, it may be worthwhile to shop around and see if it is worth more for you to spend a bit more to get a nicer room at a newer hotel.
