Loved This Hotel

This hotel is a fabulous find! The staff is super friendly and they carry Philosophy products in the rooms. The pool area is small, but really well done. The Second Story bar was a great place to meet local friends for drinks. The hotel is located across from Manhattan Village which is great for shopping and dining as well. The only minor drawback is that is a drive to the beach. I will definitely be back to this hotel!

Great Hotel

This is a really nice hotel. When I first drove up it was nighttime and I wasn't too sure -- it looked almost like a motel (it isn't). I'm so glad I went inside. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The room was very large and nicely decorated. The bed was comfortable. It's located about 1.5 miles from downtown Manhattan Beach which is easily accessible by either a very nice walking trail located across the street from the hotel or a quick car drive. I felt safe in the neighborhood and the hotel. I would stay here again without hesitation.

Nice hotel

This is a very clean, friendly hotel in a great location. Staff is very helpful and friendly. The restaurant is great. There is a reasonably priced breakfast buffet with hot and cold choices. The only criticism I have is about the coffee...I love a good cup of coffee and theirs was not very good.

Great place to stay

This hotel was great, the staff was friendly and courteous, the room decor was mid-century modern. It was everything I was looking for in a California experience, I was there on vacation, and used a complimentary bike, which most other hotels rent. Beware to get to the beach it is very hilly and is about a mile away, something us Midwesterns aren't use to, but it was nice to ride along the beach to the other beach cities. Also, this was the only hotel that offered complimentary valet parking, the going rate is at least $26 at neighborong hotels in simular class. My only complaint was the it said breakfast was complimentary on the website, and it wasn't, but maybe I mixed it up with another site, but [...] was the least expensive. Overall the Belamar is an outstanding hotel, a great price, excellent staff, with many amenities a tourist would need.

Good location

There was no clock in the room. There were no towels by the pool which as freezing and the jacuzzi which was fine. All the lounge chairs had wet used towels on them and were mostly unoccupied.I had to call to ask for a clock. The room faced a first floor alley with junk stored there. The pool was way to cold to even use.The restauant female bartender never even turned around when I walked in.I had to ask a question .I never went back.

She ain't what she used to be!

I first stayed at the Belamar in 2007, and found it a real treat a boutique hotel with an old fashioned vibe, a great price, super location friendly staff and great amenities. This time around however instead of feeling like home I was made to feel like anything but a guest. From the valet to the front desk to the terrible double queen room that I stayed in (In 2007 I stayed in one of the balconied rooms) the Belamar was just a disappointment. Upon arrival with arms full of suitcases the front desk clerk looked me up and down and asked "what can we help you with today?" I cannot tell you how much better a simple "checking in?" would have been. From that moment on the staff seemed put upon to help with directions, bike rentals, taxis, visitors etc. I pride myself on being a traveler with A+ manners, but the Belamar staff never seemed to care that I was there, or how long I was staying. To make things worse I was in town for my best friends' wedding, and when he and his new bride arrived at the Belamar the night of their wedding they found that the hotel had given away their Suite. Speaking of sweet, it's a small thing but in 2007 the hotel offered delicious fresh baked cookies in the evening. Now they have foil wrapped ding dongs. Talk about a downgrade. I vented to a member of the staff on checkout and he offered to comp a night's stay at the Belamar should I ever return. Hmmm, I still like the Belamar, but she ain't what she used to be.

If you stay use the complimentary bikes to get yourself down to Manhattan Beach, Hermosa beach, and go to Uncle Bill's for breakfast if possible!
