homey, comfortable, minimal

great home feeling, love that everything was trust based. There wasn't a receptionist when we arrived just a nice letter addressed to me with instructions for the weekend. I also liked that the kitchen/dining was open for use and that there was a communal balcony. Awesome location in terms of getting to the village.

Awesome little place

We went to Mammoth for a half marathon. We were allowed to check in a little early and they let us have a little extra time after the race as well. The "innkeepers" are really friendly, helpful people. It's a big cabin really with the separate rooms inside. They had breakfast food available all day long. The beds were really comfortable. I would go back in a heartbeat. Convenient location and great experience.

Amazing place with my home comfort!

This place is great from every aspect! A small inn 2 min from all restaurants. I was so impressed with the big jacuzzi in my room, the room and large bathroom and most of all, the breakfast: everything organic: organic coffee, organic half and half, organic milk, pancakes and so on! The people that own this place are extremely accommodating and so nice. I've only been in the very expensive Main Lodge before, where I usually only got a cold room for 500/ night. This was a 99 deal with all the comfort, plus a jacuzzi and breakfast. I'm so impressed! Thank you!

Beware!!!

Worst experience ever! No employees at location, they just leave you a key and note. Very loud can hear all the water pipes all night, hear every little noise from above occupants walking. I couldn't sleep until 3am from people talking outside. If you want a quiet place to sleep pay a bit more and stay somewhere else.

Yay! Affordability in Mammoth!

I LOVED staying here. I was in town for a wedding and couldn't afford to stay with the rest of the wedding party at a resort, so I found The Mammoth Inn...and their rooms were way nicer than the resort's (maybe my friends just stayed in the cheap part of the Mammoth Mountain Inn/resort). Sound travels along the small, hardwood floor hallway--so because there were kids there during my stay, I heard every moment of them waking up and clamoring about. It didn't bother me, since my purpose was to basically sleep and eat breakfast there and I had to be up early anyway. It reminded me of staying in a very sparse European glorified hostel/B&B. Each room seems to have an original piece of artwork/photography, and the room I stayed in was super clean. No frills, but wide selection of breakfast available at your leisure downstairs. I would definitely tell friends to stay here. One weird wrinkle: the key was difficult to turn/unlock the door each time I came home! But other than that, it was an easy and pleasant place to crash for a wedding weekend.

Mammoth Inn

Great value if you are low maintenance. Rooms were clean. Staff was helpful when they were around. It was more like staying with friends than at a hotel. I would stay there again.

I really really wanted to like this place

Just came back from a weekend of snowboarding at Mammoth. Im not very picky have have stayed at numerous places in the town over the years. This was the first time i tried the Inn, and I have to stay i was pretty disappointed. After a day on the mountain, my party and i went around 4pm to checkin. Im not a picky person, so let me start with the positives. The place is very quant. Has the true vibe of a winter cottage. The beds are pretty comfortable, and the price was definitely right. Now to the good stuff.... I have to start off by giving a low score for the staff, because there was no staff. I didn't see a single person who worked there my whole stay. Walked in and there was an envelope with my name on it holding my room key. During "check-out" i just left the key where i found it. Ok i get it, this is not a hotel... And wasnt too big of a deal for me. Just pointing it out for people expecting it. The thing that bothered me was the heat.. Or lack there of. The room was freezing. Im talking 50 degrees , and even colder in the bathroom. There only heat source is a tiny electric space heater, that did little to help. Again i can make the best out of a bad situation, do come prepared, and come bundled. It was about 10 degrees outside and very windy, and we pretty much never got out from under the blankets the whole night. They advertise breakfast in the morning, which consists of corn flakes, frozen waffles, stale muffins and luke warm coffee. Again if u can over come these negatives its very clean for a 100.00 a night stay.

awesome value 2012

We read the reviews and booked a queen Room at a great rate. Room is minimalist like Swedish apartments but with more space. Shower in room needs frosted glass but only if you come with someone you don't know well. We loved picking up our keys at the front desk and heading up to our room without meddytling staff like a hotel. Breakfast was great, bananas, frozen waffle, bread bagels, and more but you make it all yourself. Heat in room works well and is a space heater. It would be great if staff turned it on just before you arrived. Beds are European style with top mattress but are not on floor.

Great if you're a Hippy

Certainly not something for Seniors. Bed is on the floor. Shower and bathroom designed for the smaller person or someone who likes that cozy feeling. Zero amenities. Not some place my wife and I will ever return too unless we could go back to the 1960's in age......
