I was attending a conference, and this hotel was conveniently located. Also, the price was very reasonable considering the ... accommodations. Despite getting a King bed rather than the 2 doubles I'd requested, there were apologies, and we were given a room on the executive floor... hence, free breakfast and early evening appetizers [both very good]. As noted above, the staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly.

Fantastic location for the price
Erica Last Minute Fan Oct 26, 2009
The Wilshire was a last minute option for the price it was unbeliveable. I had gotten tickets litterally on Monday to see the ... USC football game for my fiance's birthday gift. Not knowing much about downtown L.A. I was unsure on where would we stay and how far the UCS campus was to any hotels I began to search hotels on Wednesday, I had a co-worker tell me he would be able to get me a hotel next to the campus using his points at the end he was unable to use them do to the hotel being full so he called me Friday morning to tell me the news I was stunned found when i heard the game was Saturday the very next day, so i began to search and found the Wilshire at a very nice price and the location was not too far from the stadium. We arrived at the Hotel a little early but the staff was very helpfull and told us that they would rush the housekeeping to get the room ready within an hour during that time we had the bell desk take our luggage and hold it then we went to the bar and just hung out 45 minutes later we went back to check in and the room was ready. The room was clean and very comfortable so we freshen up and got ready for the game, we took public transportation and saw alot of USC fans it was a great feeling knowing that we were not the only ones downtown taking public transportation it only took us 15 minutes to get there it was great we had a good time. After the game we took a cab back to the Hotel not bad at all we got in real quick and hung out at the same bar in the hotel it was a great way to relax and enjoy the Hotel.

Right across street from subway, had a painless, 4-minute check in and no hassle for getting there early, room was very clean ... and quiet. Luxurious lobby and looks kind of like a Vegas hotel. Good night's sleep, 30 seconds to check out.

Great deal for the price
Concert Goer Sep 21, 2009
We booked the Wilshire Grand through Orbitz to go see the Porcupine Tree show at Club Nokia at L.A. Live. The main reason ... was the price and location. It is right across the street from the Metro station, so linking directly from the airport was simple, although it did take over an hour on the train(s). But, you can't beat the location and the price of a train ride ($1.25). L.A. Live is right down the street, within walking distance, and there are just enough restaurants to get by for a few days. We hopped the train to Hollywood and were there in 20 minutes for some other activities. The rooms were very clean, but a little small, particularly the bathroom. The door to the ice machine in the hallway was not labeled, so I walked around for about 10 minutes trying to find it. A little placard would have helped. And, my new litmus test for hotels is free late checkout. The Wilshire passed this well, allowing us to stay until 2 p.m. (but housekeeping did call to check when we were leaving). I would definitely stay there again, especially for $85.

The hotel staff were fabulous. The concierge was very helpful, not only by telling the best way to get to places but also the ... best places for us to visit. The restaurants were wonderful within the hotel. The staff who looked after luggage were wonderful. The rooms were neat, clean and very spacious. Overall it was a great hotel, especially for my family and I who come from Australia and were not familiar with L.A at all. It was a wonderful experience for us.

Downtown price for Downtown Noise
Jaz59 Aug 28, 2009
Stayed the night with my grandparents. Close to the convention center as expected and yes, clean. I understand the street ... noise, the hotel is next to the 110 freeway but c'mon... the laughing from the room across the hall and someone sneezing in the room next door seemed pretty loud at all hours of the night. I also felt like the room was cramped, and the halls are narrow, so what it was a standard 2 bed room. For us, it prob would have been better to do room service for breakfast for convenience of time and well prob cheaper. $4.50 for A cup of black coffee? really? Expect to pay for valet parking (you have to, no self park) $35 for the night. Over all, I think I would have enjoyed staying a few miles further at a Comfort Inn or Marriott.
Traveler type: Family
If you're planning on being out early the next morning and not sure where to have breakfast it might save you time by just getting room service. Just remember to place your order on the door (hanging menu) before 2am.

Old style at the Wilshire Grand
Mark Aug 27, 2009
The Wilshire Grand has a perfect location, just in the middle of downtown LA and close to 7th Street Metro underground ... service. The lobby of the hotel is as grand as it can be, but there it stops. The rooms are very dated, old plain stuff with awkward green color designs and the bathroom is so dated that all chrome polish of the water taps are gone. On the positive side it's got an LCD television, coffee maker and the rooms are very clean and the location is a big plus if you want to stay downtown LA. However it's not worth the title of Grand anymore.
Traveler type: Business
Buy a $5 Metro day pass. It is valid for all bus and underground services to see LA and even to Santa Monica beach. The underground station 7th Street Metro is just across the street. It's a bargain.

Overall the experience is rather positive. The only thing that mars it is that the hotel gave regular rooms when checking in. ... Correcting it to suites, which we ordered took another 3 hours as the hotel staff wouldn't just trust the Orbitz reservation printout and had to call to confirm.

If you go to the Garment District, be ready to haggle over the price before you pay. You can find anything you are looking for there.
