Guests are dazzled by the super-cool Rooftop Bar, trendy 24/7 brasserie, and sexy, artful decor. Los Angeles cultural and recreational destinations, such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the Museum of Contemporary Art, The Staples Center and more are just blocks away.

Highlights
  • Rooftop Bar offers spectacular downtown views and chic design
  • Stylish guest rooms with glass-encased showers and platform beds
  • Ultra-convenient downtown location near major cultural destinations

Funky hotel. Great food. Central

Funky hotel. Great food. Central location. Service, however, was skin deep... Staff were very friendly, but not necessarily wanting to take responsibility... The phone in my room didn't work properly: it didn't ring and messages vaporised into thin air. No-one came to look at it, and it probably still doesn't work. The operator just "put a note on her system" - it worked, but I wouldn't want to rely on it... I had an issue at checkout, being charged US$6.75 each for 5 or 6 cartons of water which were not listed on the mini-bar price list and I had assumed they were complimentary. After some argument they were taken off the bill, and a further reduction was made as a goodwill gesture. The food really was outstanding for an American hotel. The coffee (even the espresso), however, was as awful as anywhere in the US.

Security RUINED my whole trip!

When we got there the Valet was nice...when we got to the front desk the hotel staff ruined the whole 2 minute experience so far by their rudeness and unprofessional actions. not one time do they look at you nor answer your question untill you ask atleast twice.... i ignored that and me n my friend both checlked in along with my other friend checking in to his room... we had 3 rooms there oh and they messed up on my room too.... right before we were going to the club, the Female security/lady that gives wrist bands was completely rude and started yelling so we were rude back and she basically refused to let the birthday person up to the rooftop along with his 3 friends. BUT, we had given them business of over 30 people already paid and waiting for us upstairs! so we talked to the manager and yet, he was completely unprofessional and rude....he would videotape us when we spoke our minds and not record himself when he is cursing or being completely unprofessional/"tough"....he did not allow us up and or nor ANYTHING! so the birthday boy spent it in his room and the 30 plus people waited for him for nothing upstairs! alll because of the UNPROFESSIONAL STAFF! I would love a refund for everything and am gunna take this a lot further!

nice roof top lounge

since the holtel was located closed to where i was supposed to work during my trip, it was kinda convenient to move. other than that. i didn't really enjoyed it. maybe i could have stayed much nicer hotel with the price. overall the hotel looks old but seemed that they tried to look hip. yes the roof top lounge was kinda cool but that's the only thing i liked. room was small and not comfortable at all. the restaurant in the lobby was ok. you can try.

Great spot.

Went to LA for class reunion at the superior university in Los Angeles, which is closer to downtown than Westwood. Standard is close to some of the newer hot spots. Bottega Louie, LA Live, etc. The hotel building has great history and the outdoor dining area is great for an urban setting. Only negative on the trip was that key to my room was given to someone else who checked in later. At about 2am, this person tried to get into the room. Luckily we had put the security bar on the door, otherwise this would have been ugly. Hotel comp'd parking to make up for it. All in, this was a good property and you get access to the rooftop bar, which is still happening.

Making the Scene

I stayed at the Standard four nights for a business trip, arriving on a Saturday night when the "scene" at the hotel and its roof top bar were in full force. Aside from navigating around loud (but attractive) revelers in the elevator and the hallways, the hotel was a fun and unique experience for this single business traveler. Families and older couples may not enjoy as much. High design, clever details add to the experience. I had a large room, which was comfortable, despite the odd choice of placing the bed on a carpeted platform (basically on the floor.) Nice bath products, ample desk space, and the perk of spending Sunday morning sunning on the roof with a Bloody Mary and surveying the scene of [*] bikini babes, bachelorette parties and hipster [*] boys brunching and snacking.

The "Dash" bus to various attractions in and near downtown is only 25 cents and runs regularly. (Yes, I got around by bus on my trip to L.A.)

Beautiful City

My boyfriend and I statyed in this hotel two nights while we enjoyed exploring the city and Hollywood. The location was great but for the price we paid I wasn't impressed with the room at all. Our room was very small, only had a bed that laid directly on the floor, and the shower was completely glass and in the middle of the room. Therefore, none of your bathroomly duties were private. We didn't have a coffee maker or cups, or really anything extra. Everything extra was an extra charge to your account. The hotel roof was amazing though. It had a pool and bar but we both still felt out of place. If your not made of money or use to being pampered on, then this is not the place for you. We never left our room unless we were leaving the hotel. It doesn't have that friendly inviting vibe to just wonder around and do as you please.

Always a great place to celebrate

Always a great place to celebrate in the heart of downtown with fellow partygoers rather than families and business people. Hotel staff is decent, but this time, it was better as they were friendly (most of the time they're not).

Very unique with a fantastic view

My coworkers and I stayed while attending an event at the Convention Center. I arrived around 9am and I was welcomed but two very friendly staff members and I was able to check in to my room straight away. Very hip and trendy indeed and almost retro. After the event and long day we spent the evening at one of the coolest spots in Downtown, on the ROOF! The lounge was amazing with the mixed atomosphere, fireplace and water beds next to the pool! We had an amazing time and for a reasonable price. I will recommend the Standard Downtown LA to all of my friends. Rooms were great, beds were incredibly comfortable and the bubble bath in the oversized tub similar to the size of a single bed, next to the window was quite memorable. The Mini Bar and supplies were fun to check out too! Thank you for a fabulous weekend.

Awake and Asleep Standard

I have known of The Standard for quite some time having lived across the street from it for 5 years. The hotel's attraction is its edge, atmosphere, unusual rooms and rooftop pool/bar which is used for filming in many TV commercials these days. One of these attractions is usually enough to make the experience worthwhile and it was this time. The hotel's negatives are lackadaisical and sometimes aloof staff (front desk these time), the slow bell/valet service/front desk at peak times, and noise in the hallways as post-bar disrespectful people go to their rooms and sometimes decide to hang out in the hall and post-party as they did during this stay. At checkout time the bell person never appeared to my room after 40 minutes (and 1 reminder call) so I carted my stuff downstairs to the check out desk. The line was prohibitively long with only two desk staff working at a peak time, so I had to bypass check out and call their accounting office two days later in order to get my bill faxed to me. (The first time I called, the person in accounting never called back so I called a second time the next day and got someone live). Valet car retrieval was slow. It took about 20 minutes with only 3 other people in line in front of me. This is the good and the bad with The Standard that I've known for quite a while. Perhaps some things just won't change there.
