Great location, very little amenities
The room was clean, location was good, people were friendly and nice. But the downside was there were very little amenities in the room: no hangers, no refrigerator, no closet whatsoever. But still, the hotel is okay for its price, but probably not the best place to stay in for people coming in for business trips.

I'll be looking elsewhere next time...
I've stayed at this hotel two other times before my most recent stay. Each time, it seems to get just a little worse. I don't think I'll be back. I know it's a no-frills-type of place, but this was a bit much. When I arrived, there was a discrepancy between what I was told on the telephone I'd be charged for a deposit and what I was told in person. It resulted in being charged twice as much for the deposit. I knew I wouldn't cause any damage to the room, but I didn't appreciate being told one thing just to have it change when I got there. And the staff member wasn't even apologetic about it. The room wasn't as clean as I would expect a hotel room to be. I happened to bring my own Clorox wipes and boy, I was finding dirt everywhere it shouldn't be: door knobs, faucets, the toilet seat. The floor in the bathroom area was dirty, the bed had hair in it, the desk chair had a suspect stain on it. Gross. It was also extremely noisy. I could hear everything going on in the room above me and next door to me - and I do mean everything! It was especially noisy late at night and very early in the morning. Couldn't figure out why. I was especially concerned when I saw what looked like a smoke detector had been ripped off the wall near the elevator. And speaking of elevator: slow, rickety, and dark inside. Let's just hope the sprinklers work inside the rooms if there really is a fire... I'll try to end this review on a positive note. After much talk about the much-anticipated pool, I was told that it was finally ready. It's winter, so I wasn't going to use it, but I saw it and let me tell you, it ain't great. But at least it exists. I've stayed at this hotel in the past mainly because of it's location, but I think I'll be looking elsewhere next time. It's just not worth the money.

Good place to rest
We went for a weekend getaway and decided on this place because of location and price...it wasn't bad but there is a lack of storage for clothes...we had to ask for more hangers, which the staff did get us more...there was no fridge or microwave so that didn't help....n on the day we were leaving they started working on the pool at 8am which we heard every hammering sound from our room...so we didn't get to sleep in...overall if you're just looking for a place to sleep its not bad, but if u need more then a bed and bathroom, you should go some where else....hopefully when they finish remodeling they'll add amenities to the room or at least the main lobby....

Needs attention to detail
Though the location was great for my purpose, and I really liked having parking available, there were missing amenities, like directions to use the tv/cable remote; in-room coffee maker; pencil and paper; full length mirror; extra roll of toilet paper. I thought it was odd, too, that there were no pictures or photos anywhere on the room's walls--only a flat screen t.v. Biggest negative was the fact that this hotel allows dogs--my neighbor's dogs barked nonstop at all hours when they were in; it sounded like they were in MY ROOM. I requested a move, however, and they did find me a room down the hall. Finally, they said coffee and pastries were provided in the lobby for breakfast, but mostly it was only coffee, albeit excellent quality.

Short walk from hotel
This hotel is just a couple blocks from the Wilshire/Western subway stop--any ride in one direction on the LA metro is only $1.50! We went to Universal Studios, Pershing Park, and the Walt Disney Concert Hall on the metro--cheap and painless (no search for parking)!!

A hotel with everything to the minimum
This place is worth what you pay for. At a prime location located in Koreatown, just two blocks from Wilshire Blvd where most business are located, this hotel provides a really convenient access to the city. However, it is quite far from most locations that worth a visit (like conference centers and shopping). Despite the okay location, the amenities provided in this hotel is really little. Should be called a minimalist hotel. There is no hair dryer, no coffee machine... it's easier just to list the things they have rather than things they should have but don't. The room is super spacious, but the lack of things makes it look not so good. There's only a bed, a TV and a few tables with lamps on them. Nothing else. The bathroom doesn't even have a towel hanger. The hotel is not soundproof as mentioned by other reviewers - I was wakened at 2am by the bark of a dog in some other distant room. Also, the elevator produces very loud noise. (It actually looks like a 80's elevator, and the maintaince tag on it says it was on a 60-day temporary license which already expired three months before my stay.) Don't ask anyone in this hotel about staff and service - so far I have only seen the receptionist (and it's the same person whenever I peeked into the lobby). This hotel has almost NO staff. Don't expect any service except for cleaning - I don't think they have anyone to handle all that. After all, if you are only expecting a very simple hotel located not far from LA, this is a place to choose. If you expect anything more than bath, sleep and TV, then maybe pay some more for a better chain around the area.

Nightlife tip:
Long walk from hotel
A lot of restaurants, fast food, bars and fashion shopping are located around the hotel on 7th and Wilshire Blvd. If you want access to malls, better restaurants and touring of Hollywood, you will have to take a bus (at least).

Okay for the price
We took a family trip for a few days and decided to stay at the Shelter Hotel in the Koreatown area of L.A. The location was great because it was central to the areas we were planning to visit (downtown L.A., Hollywood, Mid-Wilshire). It isn't in the best neighborhood, but it isn't too bad, if you're not picky. Parking is limited and if you stay out late, you'll need to tandem park and leave your car keys with the front desk. If you're looking for a hotel with amenities such as a swimming pool or continental breakfast, this is not the place to go. There is a Denny's and an IHOP within a 5-minute drive, plus various other ethnic restaurants nearby. The rooms are clean and basic. Free internet is provided, but you have to ask for it. Most of the hotel staff members are friendly and helpful, and when the only elevator broke down, it was repaired fairly quickly (within a few hours).

Perfect Location for Touring the City
The hotel itself is in the middle of ktown next to a quiet neighborhood, but not too far from bars/restaurants (within walking distance) if you want to go out and explore too. The hotel is kind of small, but the rooms are very spacious. Friendly staff too! But the best part of it is the location (in between downtown la, hollywood, the beach, etc) Pretty good for couples or friends who just want to explore the city

Great stay
The hotel ticked all the essentials - clean, quiet, comfy bed. An extra was a convenient location. Parking was fine, occasionally there was some double parking in the garage, but the staff managed it so it wasn't a problem. The desk staff were very polite and helpful, and when I needed to print my itinerary, it wasn't a problem to use their printer - thanks! We decided to use the metro to get downtown - the rapid is just 2 blocks away, and if you want to sue it, the subway is close by to get to Universal or Holloywood. A couple things to improve the room would e mor hanging space, or even hooks, in the bathroom - there is only one small double hook, not enough to hang towels, and a mirror in the bedroom. I would defintiely reccomen this hotel.
