Great one night stay
Check in and check out was a breeze. All pre-paid online so it took no time (literally) for them to look me up and hand me my room keys. I'll probably book again as this is a trip I'll have to make again in the future

OK for my needs
I arrived late-after 9 pm. My reservation was there and the check in was very friendly and prompt. I was a little unsure regarding the neighborhood but was able to park my rental car directly next to the office, and the facility was completely surrounded by a high, secure fence. I left at 0700 and did not have to return, so my stay was very brief. (My car was fine and I was secure.) My only issues were that the faucet dripped continuously and the alarm clock did not work.(I did leave a note at the front desk to this effect.) All in all, this was a good place to stay for the price and for my limited needs

Newly Remodeled, NOT!
This hotel had incredibly small rooms. Seemed outdated. Frontdesk staff was very hard to understand and charged again for the room.

Diligent, Clean, but dicey neighborhood
Reasonable rates, reasonable room, but 'non-smoking' room smelled of old smoke, old linens and old carpets. Arrived to the sound of chain-saws trimming the trees 50 feet from the hotel, and this loud racket lasted 'til late at night; impossible to read or work in my room. Sounds of car accidents and angry yelling late at night on several nights. Old, worn bathroom fixtures had non-functional bathtub drain lever; could not take a bath (but shower was OK). Asked the staff for a stopper and they said they intentionally disabled the bath drains to prevent flooding the rooms, and they won't offer any way to plug it for a bath, but I could "figure it out on my own" (I found a Home Depot 8 blocks away on Wilshire). Hotel is near LA Convention center (1 mile walk), so we booked there due to full + overpriced conference hotels, and the good name of 'Rodeway': never again! Soon after our 4pm arrival we couldn't stand the chainsaw noise any longer, so we walked to find an early dinner. However, a half-block from our hotel and across the street, we heard screeching tires and looked to see a police helicopter and 3 squad cars converge, policemen leaped out to surround a car, they yelled and aimed shotguns towards the driver (and incidentally directly at us!). They put face-down on pavement, lots of yelling and sirens and traffic obstruction--very scary. Next evening (daylight: 6pm) went to Subway Sandwiches (1 block away), where we saw a guy walking stiff-legged holding a baseball bat against his leg to conceal it from the street, what looked like a gun in his waistband, scanning his head back and forth (?looking for threats?). Again, scary, unsettling, seemed quite unsafe. Walked to convention center past whole families with kids (good) and homeless folks sprawled across sidewalk (bad), and over the 5 days were accosted for money in many different ways--from a polite "can you help me out with a little spare change?" to "Hey, man: Gimme your change for the bus, gimme your change NOW!". Not pleasant; felt risky almost any time of day. Police helicopters buzz the area at all hours of day and night. The area is clearly improving, but I'd never let my parents stay there!

Money-saving tip:
Short walk from hotel
Stay away from this hotel unless you can stay inside after dark; don't go here if you're vulnerable to pan-handlers and if you're uncomfortable around street hustlers.
