Reasonably priced hotel in LA

Would recommend Wed, Jan 26, 2011
The Miyako hotel is conveniently located a block from the Metro yellow line and less than a block from a very cute little Japanese shopping plaza and the Japanese American National Museum. Although I would not have wanted to wander around LA in the dark, I felt reasonably safe walking within the hotel area in the evening. The hotel itself was reasonably priced, the staff were all attentive and very courteous, and the lobby was quite nice. The room felt a bit worn and in need of a renovation (some bathroom fixtures leaked and the tiles and carpet looked a little tired). The walls were also a bit thin so it was easy to hear people watching TV or talking next door. Although we were initially told that there would be no charge to check into our flights and print out boarding passes, when we went to the business center, we were charged for both. However, given the prices of other hotels in the area, my husband and I found that the convenient location and reasonable cost for this hotel outweighed most of the negatives, which is why I have decided to give it a four-star overall rating.

Dining

If you like Japanese food, the restaurants in the nearby shopping plaza had the BEST Japanese meals and sushi we have ever had. (and yes, we have eaten sushi at some major cities) One of the restaurants here actually invented the California roll. How cool is that?

Well lets see, where should I start? The lobby looked nice. There was a small coffee shop and a convenience store in the lobby. The room was ok. The view was terrible from the third floor. The wi-fi was very very VERY slow. There were bums walking around the area causing a ruckus. If I had a list of 10 hotels, this one would probably be number 6 or 7.

Shopping hint

There are some nice shops in the area, as well as the little tokyo mall right around the corner.

My Stay at Miyako on Nov 6, 2010

Would recommend Tue, Nov 9, 2010
I arrived early and had to wait for the room to be claned, but the hotel staff were accomodating. Once checked in, I found the room to be in good condition and was quiet, which is very important for me. There are a couple of improvements I can recommend: I would like to see a bathrooms equipped with tooh brush and a shaver like many Japanese hotels. I would like the room to be a little more well lit, particularly around the desk. Thanks

The staff were all very friendly, and the hotel was in a safe part of town. Rooms were clean, and included a refrigerator and DVD player. Big bathroom with great water pressure in shower. Location is slightly inconvenient if you don't really like Japanese food, as there really aren't any other restaurants around (the hotel is in Little Tokyo). But overall a very nice hotel. Oh, and the karaoke bar on the second floor was fun.

Can't beat the location for visiting Little Tokyo, Japanese American National Museum, the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, and lots of restaurants & shops. Friendly, accomodating staff and clean rooms. Spa located in the hotel. About 3 blocks from City Hall. Less than a mile to Los Angeles Opera, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Ahmanson Theatre, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Mark Taper Forum, Museum of Contemporary Art, Pueblo de Los Angeles, Olvera Street and Union Station. A little further for Chinatown.

Dining

Daikokuya, across the street from hotel, has the BEST ramen...the lines outside prove it! Ebisu, on E 2nd Street, a great izakaya! Be sure to try the different flavored mochi ice cream treats at Mikawaya in the Japanese Village Plaza, entrance just down the street from the hotel.

Great hotel!

Would recommend Fri, Aug 20, 2010
This hotel was very simply and beautifully decorated. It was the cleanest and quietest hotel that I have ever stayed in. I never heard noise through the walls or in the hall. The beds were made with down duvets and pillows and our bathroom had a bidet. I also enjoyed the rosemary/mint lotions provided in the bathroom. The staff was extremely coureous and efficient. I will probably stay at this hotel on my next trip to L.A.

Dining

There was a restaurant across the street from the hotel that seemed very popular. We did not get a chance to eat there, but it had a long line outside of the door every night.
