Needs a make-over

Disappointed to find out parking is $40 per night. This wasn't mentioned in the reservation process. And that internet access is $10 per day. Restaurants are good but expensive. Rooms are large, but bathroom is tiny and needs renovation. Public areas are elegant, but the guest rooms feel old and tired. Time for an upgrade project.

Biltmore Hotel - LA,CA

Stayed 1 night. The lobby is an incredible example of Art Deco in the grand Hollywood style. The room, however, needs a little updating to keep up with the lobby. The TV (tube style) was in armoire and made passage from bed to bathroom troublesome. Bathroom had fairly new marble, but tub needed refinishing and the shower leaked. Such a beautiful property...hope someone will care enough and have the resources to restore the rooms to original beauty.

Not worth the price

The public spaces are classic "Los Angeles 1930's". If you enjoy that kind of nostalgia, the place is beautiful. Unfortunately, once you get to the room the charm fades. The housekeeping was very poor -- long dark hairs on the floor, in the bathtub and sink. Whether they came from the last guest or the housekeeping staff, they were disgusting. And for a standard room rate, I got a room overlooking nothing but an air shaft with noisy mechanical equipment at the bottom of it. The noise was so bad I had to go out and buy earplugs to be able to sleep at night. Overall, for the same amount of money you can find an LA hotel that is more comfortable and a better value.

Facades Dominate

Thank goodness I got a packaged deal. I would have been disappointed otherwise. 1) USD40 a day parking (or USD35 for self park across the street... not good for late night returns) that I didn't recall was included in the description 2) Valet service with a "minimum wage attitude" (they likely are paid min wage though) 3) Lackluster room... Tube TV (I've gotten cheaper rates in beverly hills with flatscreens), dated furniture with simple no frills bed, simple bathroom with plastic wrapped HoJo cups (yes, NO GLASS cups or mugs for the coffee maker). 4) Internet fee of 9.95$ per day

historic beauty

Worth the visit as the common areas are gorgeous and decadently ornate. Nice bar with nice bartender who actually took pleasure in mixing a cocktail (old fashion, brandy alexander) Stuffy desk crew but air of first class expected. Pool is classic art deco with exquisite tiles. History hall with photos of past glory. down side is parking is grossly expensive $40/day , but valets were very nice and attentive. We came to LA after 3 nights in Vegas at the Palazzo - so the the older, small rooms, tiny TV was "different" and sparse. But room was very clean and quiet and bed was comfortable.

Living in the Past

The MB is in a prime downtown location not only for business travelers, but for Staples, Nokia, etc. The staff, however, seems to be living in the past. I called the front desk in the morning specifically to ask about the availability of continental breakfast; i.e., toast-it-yourself bagels, etc. that are normally gratis at a hotel of this caliber. We were told that continental breakfast is served on G Floor between 7 and 10:30 am. We had a small breakfast - fruit, coffee, and a pastry. We were then presented with a bill for $40. This is not only not continental, but ridiculous.
