Historic Biltmore in LA

We chose this hotel for it's history and location, despite several negative reviews about room condition and staff. I'm happy to say, in our experience, the rooms were great and staff were all friendly and hospitable. We really enjoyed being able to walk around downtown LA , which is having a resurgence, on the many guided and self-guided walking tours. We would definitely choose this hotel again!

Comfortable and Classy

The Millenium Biltmore is a grand dame of hotels. Not only is it beautiful, it's also spacious, well apointed, and welcoming. The bed was really comfortable, and I had a good nights sleep. The location was perfect---close to the airport and the buisness district. This was the second time I stayed at the Biltmore, and it won't be the last.

Old Fashioned Charm in Downtown LA

The Biltome is a charming hotel located in downtown Los Angeles. The location is alright, within walking distance of many amenities but as in many other office city centers, downtown LA dies out after dusk. The room was spacious and clean, even though the general look was faded. The hotel staff were helpful and friendly. The gym was a fairly good fitness room with several aerobic and weight-lifting machines (although there were very few free weights). The parking fee (valet only) was pricey, $40 per night (parking lots nearby offer daily fees of $5-12).

There is hardly anything nearby. Downtown LA dies after sunset but if you have a car, you can drive your way to entertainment.

Fun location

The hotel itself was very majestic, we felt like we stepped into another world. The most fun was all the filming going on around the hotel everyday. We saw scenes from CSI:NY, a brand new feature film, Ugly Betty, and a commercial being shot all within two blocks of the hotel. Each day we wondered what we would see next. Also very convenient to the hotel, was the underground metro (many people do not realize that one exists). We rode it directly to Hollywood, where we saw the Kodak theater, Grauman's Chinese Theater, the Hollywood walk of fame, shopping and lots of fun souvenier shops.

Several small restaraunts and fast food places within walking distance. We were surprised at how early a lot of these closed for the evening. Downtown area winds down much earlier than we thought a big city would. Which was fine because our days were so full of sightseeing.

Old World Charm

I remember visiting the Biltmore as a child. Soaring ceilings, fountains, murals, fresh flowers in the lobby, gracious staff...It was convenient being located downtown near the City of the Angels Cathedral, Disney Concert Hall, MoMA and plenty of restaurants. The hallways and common spaces are beautifully appointed and my room was lovely. The only downside is that with the beautiful weather in Los Angeles there are no grounds, no tennis courts, no outdoor swimming pools or outdoor spaces to relax and have a drink.

Good Downtown Location

The Millenium Biltmore has great decor and reminiscent of the old grand hotels. The public spaces are wonderfully decorated, but the rooms are relatively small more reminiscent of hotel rooms in Europe. The restaurants are expensive, even the informal cafe. I recommend Sai Sai, a wonderful Asian Fusion restaurant. Not many other choices outside the hotel for eating on weekends, as downtown closes up. I found the level of service very good, and the people at the front desk helpful.

Great Value

This historic hotel was absolutely beautiful! The pool and spa were especially well maintained and beautifully decorated w/great guest amenities including lockers, private dressing rooms and showers, hairdryers, etc. The rooms and closets very spacious. With so much room they could put a small refrigerator or microwave in the rooms. Tasteful and elegant old-style architecture inside and out. I was disappointed to have to pay $10/day for internet service. Also, since they cater to the business traveler, & we were on a family vacation on a holiday midweek special, so there was no continental breakfast being served as they usually do. Staff was great and very knowledgeable about the area and the history. It's very close to a metro stop which makes it easy to get around practically all of the general LA area. We took it to Universal City and Hollywood and didn't have to worry about paying for parking or traffic. Great deal!

Metro to Union Station/La Placita, the original LA settlement. Great deals on shopping for Mexican imports. The last food stand to the north has the world's best taquitos! Merchandise is varied and reasonable. Lots of places to eat & take photos. Museum too if you want something educational & interesting for the kids.
