Uncomfortable, Loud

Bed and pillows were like rocks and you're right next to a noisy street and the windows don't block any sound.

Easily rivals a cheap hooker motel.

This was the worst hotel i have been in. #1- The location said it would be close to everything..close to everything BY CAR!!And by close they mean like 30 minutes so GET YOUR WALLETS READY! It was not at walking distance to anything interesting but Paramount Pictures #2-The Elevator was out of order.. the carpets were stained ... there was no phone on the room, no garbage cans, the staff was VERY RUDE and i was told (by a person who lives next door) this building was occupied by hookers at some point). #3- The view is a parking lot, there is no room service, the lamp didn't work lol, and its close to a cemetery. Need i say more ....

Definitely "Historic"

The hotel itself looks very grand from the outside but the surrounding area looked rather run down. The inside of the hotel had an old historic feel to it but I guess that's what they were going for. It wasn't exceptionally nice but it didn't feel like a motel either. We couldn't find an elevator so we trekked up 3 flights with our luggage. Our toilet was clogged, the room smelled funny, there is no phone in the room and only one accessible outlet. There were probably a total of 5 outlets in the whole room but 3 of them we couldn't get to cuz it was behind bed frames and such. The 2 remaining ones were used for the coffee maker and fridge so we only had one outlet to use - the coffee maker one. We had a choice of having a room with a "view" but more noisey or the back of the hotel with no view but much quieter. I had to ask what the "view" was cuz all I saw was a gas station across the street. Apparently from the room you can see the tiny "Hollywood" sign. Sure, why not. It's basically a no frills hotel but it wasn't bad for what we paid. The good part is that it's pretty close to a lot of tourist spots. Paramount Pictures is about a block away. The Walk of Fame is probably a couple of miles away. There's lots of Korean food nearby. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There's free parking! For the price, it was good and if I was going back to that area, I'd stay there again.

Friends getaway

The hotel looks much better from the outside than inside. It's very old and the elevator was out of service but the room was clean and the staff was helpful most of the time. Overall, our stay was pleasant - we got what we paid for. The location is not the best: far from the Metro and no restaurants around to eat.

A good place to stay

The location was great, even if 1.5 miles from the nearest Metro rail stop. It is within walking distance of Paramount and Hollywood Forever, the final resting place of such luminaries as CB DeMille, Marion Davies, Clifton Webb, the Fairbanks, father and son, and Rudolf Valentino, among many others famous in the past. The hotel itself has some issues. The elevator does not work (43 steps to the top floor), and it has not been redecorated for some time. The lobby is ornate, to say the least, but this is the only space in the hotel that is much decorated. The photographs in the hallways are interesting.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

There were three very nice restaurants within a block of the hotel. The Oxacan restaurant across Wilton served large cheap portions. The Columbian restaurant on Melrose toward Western also served large cheap portions. The staff was very friendly, too. The Italian restaurant just beyond the Oxacan restaurant was more expensive, but it had fine service and delicious food which made it worth the expense
