Hollywood is expensive; this hotel is well located, but definitely not top of the line. Electrical outlets did not work; room temp. could not be controlled. Did have very nice staff however, and we felt secure as women in the hotel and the parking

For the money I think it was ok but I would never stay at a super low end hotel again. My back hurts and it just ruins your vacation. Spend a little more money if you want a batter Los Angeles experience!
Was for business trip, hotel was clean, bathrooms very small, historical and next to the Paramount Studios. Not in best neighborhood but not unsafe.
Loved the old Hollywood pictures in the hallways and got a feel how it was 70-80 years ago.
Firstly, BEWARE OF THE BATHROOM. It is a small period bathroom with an extremely tiny (think just your face) mirror, no power outlets or sufficient room for toiletries. Also the towel rack was not installed properly and came hurtling off of the
wall every time I tried to hang up/ take down a towel. Expect to climb up to 4 or 5 narrow flights of stairs to your room (as there is no elevator)and be rewarded with no place to plug more than 1 cell phone and one laptop. Oh, unless you count the inexplicable outlet inside the closet. Also, I was told by the desk clerk over the phone that there would be a hairdryer in the room, but actually you have to request one...which would not be bad at all if there was a place in the bathroom or near the one other mirror in the room to plug it in. Yes, it is quirky and historic- but the claim of "newly renovated" leads one to expect modern amenities not just a new TV and a half-hearted attempt to hang a towel rack.

Short drive from hotel
If you are in town to see a show at the Pantages, Fabiolus Cafe on Sunset will valet your car for your meal and the show for just 10 bucks. The theatre is literally just around the corner (I made the walk easily in heels) and you beat the after show traffic in the Pantages' parking lot.
This hotel is not walking distance from Hollywood Blvd...you have to take a cab or your car and then pay to park close to the main attractions in Hollywood.
This hotel is historic alright! No elevator...we had to lug our luggage two flights of
stairs. The rooms are old and the window coverings kept falling off the window. The street noise is unbelievable. The bathrooms have a tiny sink with no outlet available there or even close to it. This was a dive and will never stay again! Pay the extra $10 to $20 to really get a 3 star hotel!
This should by no means be rated as a 3 1/2 star hotel - I've stayed in much nicer 2 star hotels than this place. My room was tiny and looked not nearly as nice and roomy as the room on the photo tour of the website. Bed was squeaky, bathroom,
towels and blankets/sheets were stained and ripped. Indoor/outdoor carpet in the room and a bit smelly. Only needed a place to sleep for a few hours, but I know never to pick this place again. On the plus side (and the only plus side), I had a view of the Hollywood sign. I should also say that the front desk was friendly and accommodating and offered to carry my suitcase up 3 flights of stairs to my room since there is no elevator.
pros: good location, reasonable price.cons: poor management, amateur service, noisy room.We reserved two rooms four nights for our recent trip in LA. On the evening we arrived, the guy at the front desk looks like a part-time worker, and he said
there was only one room reserved in the system. We were given two rooms at that night but it took us a hour or two the next morning talking with [...]and the hotel about the error. [...]did not gave us feed back in 24 hours, though they promised to. We called in the hotel in the afternoon and the manager told us he corrected the mistake, but did not apologize. There is no elevator in the hotel. The room on the Melrose side is quite noisy in the evening and early morning. The bathroom is very small. One evening, we returned the hotel discovering the room was not cleaned with the tip gone! Again, the front desk guy did not apologize.Overall, we will not visit this hotel again.

Short walk from hotel
There is a Korean town not far, maybe 10-15 minutes walk. If you like Korean BBQ, you will enjoy a lot of restaurants there.
