Just OK

Great location for Hollywood and a great price, but it's still being renovated. Great old building has a wonderful old, deep tub, but no way to take a bath for weary travelers with bad backs. No wash cloths or bath mats. They had a menu for a really good Italian restaurant nearby that delivered, thank heavens.

Good Experience

My fiance and I were happy with this place, especially because he is an independent filmmaker, and the hotel has all these amazing hollywood pictures since 1920s in the hall way

Good Basic Accommodations

My partner and I visited Los Angeles to meet about a prospective job opportunity. We were looking for affordable accommodations. This hotel is conveniently located with plenty of free parking. The internet in the room was free. There are not other amenities. However, we were surprised to see the room had a refrigerator.

Convienent but not very comfortable.

I thought I was staying at a two star and up hotel, however there was no elevator and the room was not very comfortable. The heat was working work very well, there is no fresh air come into the room because we couldnt get the window open and start to cough. We went there to visit. The hotel's location was very convinent for visiting for both public transportation and cars..the staff was pleasant and we get to store our lugguage there after we check out so we can visit more places that day before our flight in the later afternoon.

Historic Hollywood Hotel

Pros: 1. Location. It's a quick jaunt to downtown Hollywood. Not far at all. 2. Decor. If you like a historic silver screen ambience, this is your place. Cons: 1. Going Up? There is no elevator. So, pack light, or be prepared to haul heavy suitcases up the historic steps. There are pictures of Marilyn, Humphrey, and Ava on the way if you happen to take a break during your ascent. 2. Aroma. There was a persistent, "pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey" can't quite identify it, type of scent that was a guest at the hotel, too. Not unbearable, but present. Don't take this as a knock to the HHH, it is great if you desire a spot clean and safe nearby downtown.

Entertainment tip: Short drive from hotel

Jimmy Kimmel shows each weeknight on Hollywood Blvd. Whether you're a fan or not, it's a fun experience. Tickets are free, just find a rep and ask them about it circa 3-4pm. If you're chosen as the "Most Valuable Fan," you might find yourself with $100 credit to fill your gas tank with.

central location yet not actually near anything

Finding a clean, decent budget hotel in LA is becoming more difficult. The Hollywood Historic Hotel has a few things going for it: it's an interesting building, centrally located, and has plenty of off-street parking. But the stretch of Melrose it's on is completely dead. It's not walking-distance to anything remotely interesting, and if you want to go out in the evening to grab a bite, your strolling options are very limited. It is an older building with thin single-pane windows so there's a lot of street noise, even on the third floor, and the AC makes a racket. I'm accustomed to sleeping with earplugs so that wasn't a deal-killer for me. The room was clean and basic, but the king bed was very hard and uncomfortable, and they use flat sheets which continually get undone. The bed alone is reason enough for me never to return.

Small New York Style

Pro: Great location if you wanna do the "hollywood" thing. I loved the pillows on this bed! Con: Bathroom is SUPER SMALL. My boyfriend had his knees up to his ears, when at sat on the toilet. And he's only 6 foot. New York style hotel. *ASK FOR AN A/C ROOM* not all rooms have A/C

Right in west hollywood. So you get the glam during the day, and the bums at night. Typical Hollywood

Good for price

We were in and out in one day. Stopped to see the sights during an extended weekend wedding in California. It was fine for a short stay. There are not many outlets in room for recharging a phone or computer, but for the location and price this hotel was just fine.
