Love this hotel
This was our third stay here, and we're already planning on going back. The staff is amazing, they give you free snacks and drinks (when you check in and check out), and the location can't be beat--right in the heart of Hollywood, near the Hollywood Bowl and shopping, and just a short drive to the Farmers Market/Grove, LACMA, and Griffith Park. The rooms are old and little shabby, but clean and quiet with great views of the city and the hills--and the Hollywood sign.

It really doesn't get much better
Absolutely loved this hotel - staff was super nice and helpful...room had an awesome view. Considering the location, amenities and the price, it's hard to beat...sure there are five star locations up in the Hills, but if you don't want to spend an arm and a leg, this is perfect . I was super happy with the room - had a nice kitchenette and everything was clean and really nice - building itself is older, but room is updated. The staff offered lots of unique touches to make the experience special (ie, when I was checking in, one of the guys at the concierge walked up and gave me a nice celebratory glass of non-alcoholic champagne...more for the gesture than the free drink, of course :) The pool was gorgeous (nice waterfall off to the side, gorgeous pagoda), view unparalleled...gated entry to hotel is right next to the front entrance of Yamashiro restaurant. And if you can, talk to the concierge about getting into the members-only Magic Castle (the hotel has a deal set up with them that allows hotel guests, space permitting), and it's a really fun experience. Definitely recommend the Hollywood Hills Hotel.

Nicest Hotel Staff You Will Ever Encounter
The views are amazing, the minibar is free, and the staff is the nicest you will ever meet at a hotel. My wife is pregnant and one day we had slept in and was going to miss breakfast. They brought it to our room since she didn't make it down instead. The rooms are large and sufficient, but everything else makes up for any room shortcomings. You also get admission to the magic castle which everyone says is amazing, just remember to bring a suit and tie for guys or a cocktail dress for ladies as it is required at the castle.

Fantastic location, it's magic
We experienced a wonderful welcome feeling entering the magic castle! The staff was very helpful and super friendly. The location downhill is like entering Melrose Place, but it only gets better uphill in the appartements! Wonderful views over LA! Breakfast included. We had the stay of a lifetime!

The Perfect Place for us!!
I wanted my daughter to experience what it would be like to live in the Hollywood Hills and not just another hotel room. The setting of this hotel is absolutely beautiful. We could see the entire downtown area and the Hollywood Hills from you own balcony. The pool area is so beautiful with an asian flavor. The front desk could not have been more helpful and welcoming. The room was huge with a small kitchen. We will definitely stay there again!! LOVED IT!!!

Short walk from hotel
Nice and close to the Hollywood Bowl. We walked there and back. It's a bit of a hike because you do a bit of climbing, but saved the hassle of trying to get a cab close to the Bowl or take our own vehicle and park it.

A great escape in middle of the action
Up the hill in the Hollywood Heights neighborhood, this hotel is quiet yet still close to all the action of Hollywood. The hill is steep and twisty and fun to walk down (and back up) or you can get a quick ride from the staff at the Magic Castle Hotel. Our room had a view of the hill with some pretty amazing houses. The pool is big, deep and gorgeous, with fantastic views of the city. Just up the hill a little further is Yamashiro Restaurant, which served the best sushi I've ever had, an amazing dessert (brulee poached peach with vanilla sponge cake, roasted pecans, creme anglais and caramel crust), and Elijah Wood was sitting on the front steps when we arrived. It's a very nice place where you can show up dressed however you please. Our room was a suite with two double beds, small kitchen, large sitting room and long balcony with a plastic table and chairs. The balcony overlooked the distant Griffith Observatory and had views of the rising sun. The bathroom had two sinks and tub/shower combo with good space. Toiletries supplied were ample and better quality than most hotels. The linens were excellent, beds comfy. This is an old hotel, and it shows its age here and there. However, this is no bland, stark Days Inn, and the character of this place is charming and satisfying. At the top of the driveway, there is a pretty close view of the Hollywood sign. The one-way road to the top of the hill is narrow and twisty. Google Maps doesn't realize many of those streets on the hill are one-way, so take care in planning. It's easy to get around on Franklin, Highland and La Brea, anyway. The staff at the hotel were pleasant and helpful and made us feel welcome and at ease. The breakfast is ample, with croissants, muffins, scones, fresh fruit (plums, peaches, kiwifruit, apples, bananas, pears), hot (packets) and cold cereal, granola, yogurt, bread/toast, juices, milk, coffee (flavor shots available), several varieties of tea, and packets of hot chocolate and spiced apple cider. In the evenings, cucumber water was in the Magic Castle Hotel lobby. My 9-year-old daughter was an instant addict. Minibar snacks were available, and the staff would deliver them to your room if you desperately needed a granola bar or a bag of M&Ms and couldn't be bothered to walk down the hill. This hotel is walking distance to Hollywood Boulevard and short driving distance (about 5 minutes) to Universal Studios. Another short drive is Griffith Park and Observatory, which was beautiful itself, and provided good views of the city and Hollywood sign. Longer drives are Santa Monica, Venice, Malibu and Long Beach, from half an hour to Santa Monica, up to an hour to Long Beach, depending on traffic. I would have liked Internet access in our room, but not having it was probably better for getting us up and doing things. Free wireless was available in the Magic Castle Hotel lobby, however. This was one of my favorite hotel stays, and I love to travel and do so often. I would stay here again if I were in need of a Hollywood-area hotel or wanted a central location from which to tour LA.

Short drive from hotel
Go to Miceli's for dinner. There is one on Las Palmas, which is walking distance from the hotel, or one just over the hill in Universal City, a very short drive and a great place to stop after a day at Universal Studios, which is what we did. The staff is friendly and musical--the servers sing big band tunes with live accompaniment, and they are very good. I wouldn't normally like that sort of thing, but it was fun and relaxing. The decor is gorgeous, and the food couldn't get any better. There is a lot to choose from and the portions are large. A great place.
