After an extraordinary and extensive renovation, you will find yourself surrounded by the Varden Hotels history and contemporary style. The Varden Hotel is a-typical of the branded cookie-cutter hotels found throughout the country. Your stay at the Varden Hotel will be an architectural and design experience. As you enter the sleek 35-room hotel, you will be surprised to find the original front desk from 1929, historic windows, railings and archways; all blending seamlessly with white leather furniture, a diamond shaped gray pewter and white limestone lobby floor, and state of the art technology.
The Varden Hotels location is within walking distance to all the Long Beach Attractions. In fact, many of our guests prefer to use the Varden Hotel because of our close proximity to the Port of Long Beach. This historic-chic hotel is only one block from trendy Pine Avenue restaurants, and four short blocks from the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center. Find yourself within walking distance to the Aquarium of the Pacific, the Pike at Rainbow Harbor, local beaches, museums, boutiques and many other attractions.
Come to Long Beach for vacation or work, but come to the Varden Hotel to experience history, design, location and affordability.

Wonderful Boutique Hotel
The Varden ("A Bath in Every Room!") Hotel is a fine little jewel quite close to all the fun stuff in Long Beach, without the chain-hotel pricing. I felt like I was staying in a fresh version of what could have been a room out of a Raymond Chandler novel...Phil Marlowe or Sam Spade would have felt comfortable and well-served. The staff is extremely helpful and makes every effort to fulfill traveler needs. I'd gladly stay here again, and recommend the Varden to all.

boutique is the key word
This is a bit of a surprise in the economy of space. However, the overall aspect grows on you inspite of no bathtub, tiny shower and bed against a wall. Very european in feel and efficiency; but was a thoroughly enjoyable stay. Truly eco-friendly. All the staff was available, friendly and working hard to make the stay enjoyable: including setting breakfast up abit early when they discovered I worked early in the lounge with coffee.

New Years in Long Beach
The Varden is a great hotel that was just renovated and has a modern feel. They are small hotel rooms that are suited for either a business trip or a couple stay. It's not to far from the pier and it is located right in the heart of Downtown Long Beach.

The staff was very friendly and the room was nice. Room was pretty small, but that was not a major issue.

Nice and clean with helpful staff
Because of the top rating of this hotel, we booked two nights. The room had a single bed and a small chair with television above and a tiny bathroom. The staff was nice and tried to be helpful although they did not provide many valid restaurant or shopping recommendations. A very continental breakfast and afternoon snacks with wine were provided. Overall, I believe we could have done better for the charge.

Entertainment tip:
Short drive from hotel
The International City Theater experience was a good use of our time and money. A special theater performance through the internet is available along with dinner in the Sky Room that is nearby. I would have liked to know about this in advance.

Great Hotel, Friendly Staff, Small Bathroom
This hotel has a wonderful staff and a very clean modern look. The bathroom is connected to room via a long mirror (which looks stylish) but was a little cramped. Overall I enjoyed staying here and would come back again.

Very Tight quarters
What's good: - The down town location; But not close enough to the water front; - The staff is very friendly. - nice snack mid morning and afternoon, not just during breakfast hour. What's not so good: - The room size and all furnishing are much smaller than we anticipated. - The desk is tiny, only half the depth and width of a regular desk. There is no closet in the room. But there is an exposed short rack mounted next to the small desk. - There is no table in the room for eating snack or coffee. A fold down table would be a good addition. The bathroom reminded me of the kind one would find in Singapore, Hongkong or Japan. - The worst is the sink. It's smaller than airplane bathroom sink and the glass shelf above it makes it nearly impossible to wash your face.

Great hotel
My husband and I stayed here for two nights and were very impressed. It's in a great/quiet location and a block or so away from all the restaurants and walking distance to the water. The hotel was spotless. The room is very European and a little bit small but fine for us. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was super clean. The staff was wonderful. The breakfast was a little light and consisted of pastries, yogurt and OJ, tea or coffee, but there's a fabulous market about three doors up with everything you could ever need there. I would definitely go back to this hotel

The Right choice
Two night stay for Dalai Lama event; up early and back late. Room is very small, sparse ammenities, and very clean. Coffee, tea and fruit available 24 hrs. Walked to restaurants and convention center. Great staff, would do it again. Have been to Hyatt and Renaissance which have pools but by any other comparisons would opt Varden.
