After an extraordinary and extensive renovation, you will find yourself surrounded by the Varden Hotels history and contemporary style. The Varden Hotel is a-typical of the branded cookie-cutter hotels found throughout the country. Your stay at the Varden Hotel will be an architectural and design experience. As you enter the sleek 35-room hotel, you will be surprised to find the original front desk from 1929, historic windows, railings and archways; all blending seamlessly with white leather furniture, a diamond shaped gray pewter and white limestone lobby floor, and state of the art technology.
The Varden Hotels location is within walking distance to all the Long Beach Attractions. In fact, many of our guests prefer to use the Varden Hotel because of our close proximity to the Port of Long Beach. This historic-chic hotel is only one block from trendy Pine Avenue restaurants, and four short blocks from the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center. Find yourself within walking distance to the Aquarium of the Pacific, the Pike at Rainbow Harbor, local beaches, museums, boutiques and many other attractions.
Come to Long Beach for vacation or work, but come to the Varden Hotel to experience history, design, location and affordability.

The Right choice
Two night stay for Dalai Lama event; up early and back late. Room is very small, sparse ammenities, and very clean. Coffee, tea and fruit available 24 hrs. Walked to restaurants and convention center. Great staff, would do it again. Have been to Hyatt and Renaissance which have pools but by any other comparisons would opt Varden.

varden room too small&inconvenient
I've known that there are 3 type of room type(Classic/Varden/Urban) in this hotel after I backed home from my travel. My room [...] is Varden room. They explained that the Varden room is 2nd floor room on their reservation website- http://goo.gl/UCLC6.I paid $129(exclude Tax) for that. But I stayed classic room on the 1st floor. OMG.Classic room is too small to stay with 2 people.I was being so sorry to my wife whole that night.I think Classic room is just only 1 person absolutely not 2 people.Bathroom is too small and there was no sink in there. Sink is in the room beside by the bed and really small. So really difficult to using it.I didn't complain those kinds of thing to the Varden Hotel because I don't know Varden room is 2nd floor room. But I am not sure it is their mistake or not but I have an very bad memory of this my travel [...].There are good experience reviews on the Yelp.(http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-varden-hotel-long-beach)Those good experience review encourage me choose this hotel. But now, I can't those reviews on the yelp.

Comfortable and Friendly Staff
Just a few blocks from the Long Beach Convention Center and downtown restaurants, The Varden Hotel has a great location and is a local historic stop. The rooms are small European boutique style. Very comfortable with attention to all details. The owners work in the hotel and made me feel so welcome. They offer wine and snacks for happy hour and have a nice breakfast included in with the room rate (oatmeal, yogurt, good coffee, fresh pastries, etc.). I will definitely stay at The Varden again.

good location, tiny place
While i was there i went to the shoreline village and went to pine ave for the night life. Well i wish the bathroom was bigger and also the zinc is right under the mirror so it was really hard to wash my face and brush my teeth so all the water went on the floor making it slippery but the bed was the best bed i have slept on. This is the very first trip i've taken

A Worthy Alternative
Since i'd be attending a show at the Long Beach Convention Center, I researched hotels in the immediate area - I had no car, so public transport and walkability to the Center, restaurants and other necessities was a prime consideration. I also didn't want to dish out big money to stay at the big chain hotels nearby, like the Westin. Checking in was a pleasant experience at the Varden; the very small lobby is cheerful, clean and well kept, and the clerk was upbeat, professional and helpful, even showing me up to my room. The room itself was tiny - I booked a single - which honestly, was just right for my needs. I just needed a clean, quiet, safe place to lay my head. The bed was comfy, with nice linens and pillows, the air-con adequate, and the TV sharp. There wasn't much room near the sink and toilet area to move or turn around in, but it worked fine. Continental breakfast in the morning was nicely presented and a good way to start off, with good coffee and TV in the small eating area. It is just 5 blocks from the Convention Center, and less than a 2 block walk from the entertainment hub of Pine Ave. I ended going down to the Shoreline area for dinner at Outback, which was also convenient to the Convention Center. Another plus: the Metro Blue Line train has a stop just up the street from the Varden, so I was able to take the train down from LAX and back up to catch my flight out. Very convenient. My biggest complaint would be about the lack of storage in the room itself, and few options for placing all the accessories business travelers usually travel with - like a place for your computer (the little shelf was barely adequate), somewhere to hang your jacket, etc. Otherwise, the overall experience was above average (and certainly not ordinary), though I thought the final cost was a tad expensive for a single room.

Small, but Charming and Full of Characte
The location is a few blocks from the main marina shopping area and a couple of blocks from restaurants. About a 10-15 minute walk to the beach. Very convenient to the convention center. The rooms were very small - not sure I would want more than me in one. The hotel staff was really really nice and helpful.

A Gem of a hotel - friendly, comfortable
I went to Long Beach for a 5 day intensive workshop and chose to stay at the Varden hotel because all the reviews were very positive and having stayed there I can see why. The Varden is a small hotel (about 35 rooms) but the rooms are very clean and comfortable and the staff are really friendly and helpful. You are made to feel at home and they take a real interest in you and help in every way possible. The hotel is close to transport, retaurants and a short walk away from the shoreline and if you have any particular interests the staff are happy to advise on where to go. If I am ever in Long Beach again, I will certainly stay at the Varden again. Iche Otonti
