A unique hotel
THis is the second time we have stayed on the Queen Mary. This time we had an outside room with two port holes which is lots better than the inside room we had last time that was quite claustrophobic. The outside room was also considerably larger. You have to remember that this was a ship whose heyday was 50-75 years ago - the interior and rooms have been left original as much as possible so if you're looking for a modern glitzy type hotel this is not for you, Staff is very friendly and location on the harbor is great - just make sure you get an outside room!

Don't Give Up the Ship
The Queen Mary is a unique attraction and a real asset to the City of Long Beach. Staying in one of the staterooms is a real enconter with history. However, I feel that there are some areas that need improvement. The entryway is a shabby add-on that needs to be replaced. The elevators are slow and dirty. There was a big line-up at the check-in desk, and not enough staff to handle it. It seems that when people are lined up, and feeling irritable, someone from the staff could be working the line, taking care of some preliminary paperwork, or even bringing refreshments and good cheer to the customers. Paying FIFTEEN DOLLARS a day to park is outrageous. The parking lot is huge, completely adequate to handle all of the guests, and all of the visitors to the ship. The visitors are all over-paying to park by the hour, more than enough for the facility to maintain itself. The Russian submarine attraction should be removed. It detracts from the beauty of the Queen Mary. The lifeboats are rusted through their hulls! With only one exit from the ship, it seems like lifeboats should be kept in good repair. It is not at all out of the question that they might someday be needed, in case of fire. It is a long drop from the promenade deck to the water. I was stopped by Security (rejects from the Real police) when I brought a 12 pack of beer aboard. They informed me (in a fairly nasty fashion) that no outside food or drink is allowed, since there are two working bars aboard. I said I had not seen this in the hotel literature. Sure enough the rules are etched onto the glass at the entrance, in a place very few customers would bother to read, unless one were bored, waiting for transport. Every stateroom has a small, empty refrigerator! After this embarrassing rebuff I filled my large camera bag with all manner of contraband, and brought it in. And I will do it again.

Interesting to visit
A beautiful boat! We visited be ourself the boat. It was very interesting..all the story of the boat. But for sure, it's not a place that I will stay more that one night because there's no pool and once we have visited the boat there nothing to do and it is expensive. We didn't go to the restaurant, we chose to go to the city of Long Beach. We are very haapy about our experience to this hotel.

Piece of History
The Queen Mary is undergoing renovation which will imporve the accomadations in the future. The hotel staff was helpful and friendly. The room was a mixture of the 1930's and todays flat panel tv and internet access. The dining in the Promenade was good for breakfast but the dinner was marginal. The kitchens are in the process of being upgraded so perhaps it will be better soon. Touring the ship is very interesting and the location has quick access to the Long Beach Aquarium and many restaurants. Parking is an extra $15 per day but you do have in and out privledges. I would stay there again if I had a reason to be in the area.

Experience at least once
We only stayed at the Queen Mary Hotel for one night, but it was definitely worth the experience. The room was a little outdated, but it's all part of the QM's charm.

Near The Reef Restaurant
We mainly picked this hotel because it was on Long Beach Harbor with a fantastic view, and because it was within walking distance to The Reef Restaurant, one of our favorite places to eat. The room was a little wierd, tho, with the raised entry into the bathroom, and just the plumbing, porthole, etc.

Not up to snuff
Twin beds were placed foot to foot, the carpet was very thin and extremely dirty-looking with large stains throughout. Sounds came through easily from the next room. At round 5:30 Sunday morning, loud thumping noises could be heard from the lower region of the ship. Self parking is very limited with most of the lot set aside for valet parking--not good when the handicapped spots are in the valet parking area. Positive note--breakfast buffet on Labor Day ($12 or so) was good value.

Did It For The Experience
Staying on the Queen Mary was a great experience. It is something everyone should do. We attended the Blues Festival so didn't get to do to much looking around until our last day. The room was small with 2 twin beds and one chair. The beds were comfortable but a little short for my 6ft husband. The shower/tub was a real safety hazzard. The tub sloped from both sides to the middle and you had to stand with one foot in front of the other. There were no bars to steady yourself. It was also very noisy. (real stuff not ghosts).

Great for a unique experience
You are staying in the ship's actual staterooms, complete with portholes for windows, etc. The rooms are not as large as a regular hotel, but there is still plenty of room. The standard double beds are very, very small, so we asked for a king bed and that was just fine. Note: The walls are very thin--you can clearly hear and be heard by your neighbors and anyone in the hallway, even if people aren't being unusually loud. I recommend you come for a weekend and just stay on the ship. This is a wonderful historic ocean liner, built in 1936, larger than the Titanic, and there are a number of tours you can take. In the water right next to the Queen Mary is a Russian submarine you can tour. The whole ship is from the art deco era. Once a year the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles holds a weekend event on the ship, and that happened to be going on the same time we were there. It was awesome to see so many people all over the ship dressed in their 1920-30s style clothes--the only thing that would have made it better is if we had actually been able to sail the ship over to England!

Retro cool
The Queen Mary was so charming. The room (I suggest getting the deluxe with portholes. I think we would have been claustrophobic without them) was plenty big, had a frig, and art deco touches. It was really great to be able to get the free long beach transit bus (passport bus) right outside and it took us all over the city. We did not eat there but the lounge looked interesting and had a piano player. The only thing that I would caution someone about would be the thinness of the walls. If you had a bad neighbor you would hear everything. I was really happy we didn't have that experience. I did hear all that was next to us though-talking, laughing etc. I could be a nightmare. I wouldn't suggest staying there if you get crabby with possible noise. Walking around on the ship was great. The decks are just like going back in time. I give it a thumbs up!
