In Long Beach for a graduation

Our room was great, the breakfast buffet quite good, and the staff very nice to deal with. Our room had a balcony which overlooked the pool and was very pleasant to sit out on. The location was perfect for our needs and the best part - the room rate was very affordable.

Good value

Older facility, but if you don't require the latest and greatest in the hospitality industry, then the value provided by Golden Sails is for you. Huge buffet hot breakfast, large rooms, comfortable beds, reasonably close to Long Beach attractions, large swimming pool, separate and large outdoor spas and a very friendly and helpful staff. We have patronized this hotel on three separate visits and have not been unhappy with our choice.

Quiet, comfy stay!

We really enjoyed our stay here! The landscaping was so very nice and our room was facing their gazebo & it was beautiful! I recommend a room downstairs with a patio facing pool/gazebo!

Great Location, Not a Great Hotel

While I appreciate the pro-military vibe at the front desk (really, it's awesome to see all the hats and stickers), the staff there seemed very unprofessional. Instead of explaining to us anything about our meal tickets, the guy simply said, "So I just finished telling them [the guests before us] about these, any questions? You are staying multiple days so you'll have to come back every day after 3 to get more." Yes, if you want the breakfast provided, if you don't get your passes in the afternoon the day before, you're out of luck. Our first room, the card reader was cantankerous and usually only lit green after 5 or 6 tries. The paint was chipped on the front door, the bathroom had mold all over the ceiling, and the bathroom door refused to shut. The mirrors are perfectly angled so that you can see someone in the bathroom from the beds, so we exchanged rooms. The next room was decent but not completely clean, complete with a musty old swamp cooler and outdated TV. The TV's remote, as a side note, has an irritatingly short range. The hotel's promised wi-fi also had such a weak signal that it wasn't worth using (even after moving to the second floor). The pool was closed and very dirty. The jacuzzi looked like someone poured dish soap in it, and the issue was never addressed (we had a 4-night stay). All in all, the hotel served its purpose, but it was definitely not a good value. Many attractions are within a 10-minute drive, and that's awesome, but if you're expecting anything other than a bed with stiff pillows, book elsewhere.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

Aquarium of the Pacific has gorgeous displays and is close to all kinds of restaurants. When you're done there, you can stroll around and enjoy the atmosphere, or just sit on a bench and watch the boats while you enjoy the breeze.

Old but clean, friendly and comfortable

We had to stay at the Best Western Golden Sails because our condominium nearby the hotel was under renovations. We have stayed at more updated Best Westerns before AND had just come from a week long vacation in SF in which we had stayed at the Wyndam Canterbury, so truthfully, I was a bit disappointed at the dated decor and furniture. However, the room was very clean and most of all, the staff was extremely helpful, friendly and nice. For the days we were displaced from our home, Golden Sails was our home away from home. We especially liked the free buffet breakfast, which was very good and having a restaurant in the hotel. Overall, our stay was comfortable.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

We live in the area, and whenever we want to go out to eat and go for a leisurely walk, we go to Seal Beach Main Street. It has a family atmosphere, restaurants, shops, ice cream and sweets and a pier to walk up and down. If you're visiting from out-of-town, try Taco Surf. It doesn't sound fancy, but they have great Mexican food, and if you're in Southern California, you have to try the Mexican food. Also, you must stop at Sweet Jills. The smell and frosted cupcakes and cookies will be sure to snag you as you walk by anyway. Welcome to Long Beach. We love it here and hope that so do you.

Nice Hotel and Location

I really enjoyed my experience at this hotel. My sister came to visit me, and we stayed here. The jacuzzi is huge, and the pool was heated. It was very relaxing. They provide a complementary breakfast, and it was delicious. They give you coupons to the restaurant, and you go in the morning and they have a wonderful breakfast buffet. It was a great stay.
