Excellent Choice for upscale visit to Laguna

Renovated since our last visit and very well done. Friendly and gracious service. Our Ocean Front Room was well appointed, and comfortable. If your mind the sound or surf don't choose a low floor. They should have used triple glass for the renovation. In large cities like New York and Chicago the windows in newer hotels are sound proof. We loved our stay.

No Air Conditioning

We booked a non refundable 4 days in July, only to find out that the only way to cool the room down was to open the windows and hope for the best. I couldn't sleep because of the heat, light and noise. $500 a night should include air conditioning. Don't you think?

10th Yr at Surf Sand, 1st disappointment

This was our 10th straight year staying at the surf and sand and first time without our children and is our first year we were disappointed. 1st, we were given the wrong room. Second, the hotel closed the pool on Sunday at 4:00 pm for the whole day and night as they had a private party for Brighton AND DID NOT NOTIFY the guests. On top of this, our room was just above the pool area and we had to hear them set up, have the party all night and then tear down all the tables and make extreme noise until almost midnight.

Honeymoon-perfect

My husband and I stayed here for the first 3 days of our honeymoon. We loved it from the moment we stepped into the main lobby. We arrived after our wedding at around 1 AM and everything was already prepared for our check-in. We had a surfside suite with a waterfront view and we were right above the sand. Everyone is very friendly and helpful including room service and housekeeping. The food was DELICIOUS! The drinks were great too. We recommend the lemon ricotta pancakes and the apricot french toast, although we loved everything we ate and drank there. If you prefer to eat elsewhere, the concierge will help you find restaurants within walking distance of the resort. They even know when reservations are available for nearby restaurants. Our only regret is not booking massages at the spa since we had a flight to catch. We had such a great time here and we would recommend it to anyone!

Wonderful....as usual!

Surf & Sand is ideally located right above the water, with breathtaking views from almost every room. We've stayed here a dozen times or so and always feel refreshed when we leave. This time, upon checking in they thought we had booked andradite room, when we had actually paid for a surfside room upgrade. When I showed them the confirmation email (always good idea to have!), they apologized that they had nothing available in that category so they gave us a free upgrade to a surfside suite! It was huge...and beautiful. The room was well maintained, with every thoughtful amenity provided. The service was always friendly and prompt, and never once did they neglect to call us by name (even the valet or people cleaning the room)...a nice touch .

"Fabulous Beach-Front Luxury"

The management and staff of this hotel treated us like royalty during our visit to "Surf & Sand". Food in restaurants and room service was the best I've ever experienced. Upon arrival, our side ocean-view room was up-graded to a luxurious ocean-front room with a great view of the ocean and the "Mystery Missile" smoke trail on the horizon of the Pacific Ocean. We went on off season in November for a Birthday celebration, but, it was still warm enough to enjoy the heated pool and jacuzzi on the property.

Beautiful view

We found this resort to have great service with attention to detail. The view from our room was spectacular and our dining experience both at Splashes restaurant and in room service was wonderful.

Check in is 4:00pm but we arrived at 11:30. They let us check in and checked our bag. They said they would call us when the room was ready. We were in our room by 1:30. We really appreciated the early check in.

Rude and Dishonest Staff

Due to some problems with our wedding, we were offered a complimentary room for 2 nights and a reduced rate after that. We accepted their offer and booked a two-week stay. And, so began 2 weeks of disappointment after disappointment.First, we checked in and went up to our room, which was not facing the ocean. This room type is not listed on their website or brochures, so we had no idea that we would be in a room that looked out onto the parking lot and that we would be kept awake by the sounds traffic on PCH.Our upcoming complimentary nights were in an Oceanfront Towers King room (OTK), and we were told we could stay there, if there was availability. We knew there was availability, based on reservation searches on the website and phone calls to the reservations desk.I contacted [...] (assistant to the VP of Hotel Operations), with whom I communicated prior to our stay, and I copied [...] (assistant manager). I shared with both our frustrations, and I asked if we would be able to, as we were originally offered, stay in our room in the Oceanfront Towers for the duration of our stay, since it was available. My first email went ignored; I again wrote a few days later, and I received a reply from [...] saying she would look into it the morning of 7-30.I continued to check the availability of rooms online. Through the evening of 7-29, when I searched for availability from 8-1/8-7 four different room types showed up, all oceanfront rooms. On our way out to dinner on the night of 7-29, we stopped at the front desk, to inquire about notes in our file to indicate that the front desk staff should look into keeping us in that OTK room from 7-30 to 8-7. When we heard there were no notes, we asked about availability and were told that rooms were still available. [...] overheard our conversation and immediately told us that the Resort was full and no rooms were available. It is frustrating to hear a manager lie to us about availability, when rooms were available. That night, we came back to our room, and I checked availability again. No more than a couple hours after I just heard and saw multiple rooms were available, the online reservation system indicated that the OTK room was not available. I thought it an odd coincidence, so I asked a friend of mine to call reservations the next morning, 7-30, before we stopped down to ask for room availability. My friend spoke with [...], who checked availability for the same dates I had been requesting, and she shared with my friend that MULTIPLE OTK rooms were available. 15 minutes later, my husband went down to the front desk and spoke with [...], who said that NO OTK rooms were available. When he asked her why [...] would tell someone who called for a reservation for an OTK room 15minutes prior that multiple rooms were available if they were not available, she had no explanation. [...] was telling the truth (multiple OTK rooms were available) and [...] was lying to my husband (saying that NO OTK rooms were available). [...] said that one room was available for all but one day for 8-1 to 8-7 and she and [...] were going to see what they could do. But, a Seaview room came up on the online reservations system without trouble or restrictions for the entire 8-1 to 8-7 range, without anyone needing to speak to anyone. By end of day, we still had not heard from [...], so we followed up with a phone call and were told that we could check into a Seaview room for the duration of our stay.On 8-1, the front desk manager ([...]) gave us our key with a smug smile and said, it is on the first floor. The first floor Seaview rooms have very little view of the ocean (due to the solid wall on the patio) and are perhaps the loudest because of its location directly next to the pool and Splashes. On the morning of our checkout, we noticed that the 2 nights that were supposed to be complimentary were charged to us. We went down to the front desk and again met with [...]. We explained the situation, and she told us th...
