Needs an overhaul
Location is the only benefit. Hotel is moldy and the carpets need cleaning -- I've been sick for two days after our one night stay. Basic amenities are missing. No air conditioning mandated windows staying open which made for a very loud evening. Don't come with children as there are no safety devices on windows or hallway emergency exits. Service for cocktails on the deck was lacking although the view was great. We didn't have dinner ther but the couple next to us seemed very dissatisfied. Parking was $20 and they got me for another $5 for early arrival -- I was happy to pay though given the traffic and parking in Laguna is horrendous. Breakfast was ok but -- again -- service was marginal. Next time I'll stay in Newport Beach for a little bit more and have all the amenities.

Nice location but needs updating
The hotel is nicely located on the beach and close to all the attraction in Laguna. It could stand much updating. Do not accept a Village view room as you will not sleep past 6 AM due to the noise from traffic. This could easily be fixed with new type of windows as the current windows appear to be the originals which are in bad shape. Management was understanding and offered us a garden view room but for an additional $50. That was their solution to our problem. Be careful when bathing as both my wife and I were nearly scalded due to water temperature changes that came on suddenly, a real problem! Parking is $20 per day. Parking attendant was very nice and helpful. Love Laguna Beach but will look for another place to stay next time we go.

Short walk from hotel
Rock'N Fish is a great place to eat, you need to try their Signature Oak Grilled Fresh Artichoke as an appetizer it's out of this world. Romeo cucina is also a great Italian restaurant where the food is great the service better. You wont be disappointed! We had a great breakfast at a fantastic local place named Orange Inn. Nothing fancy just great food and coffee, try it you'll love sharing a table with the local folks.

Beachfront, but noisy
Noise from PCH , the late night business across the street, and early morning trash pickup made leaving windows open for the sound of the ocean not an option. However, very convenient for walking and beach access.

Historic beach front
The best: A reserved beach is just steps away . Hotel staff very friendly; restuarant had great food. Downside: Very noisy! Traffic and restuarant noise until 2am. Street cleaners and delivery trucks started about 5 am, so listening to ocean was out. No air conditioning, but there is a ceiling fan. Hotel is historic, so there are items that seem old (warped doors, hallway noise, small elevator). The common areas have been redone and have charm.

Short drive from hotel
Stop by the Pacific Marine Mammal Center on at 20612 Laguna Canyon Rd (Hwy 133). It is free. Donations accepted. The sea lions and seals were playful. Volunteers eager to answer questions. This is well worth the stop and terrific for the kids.

Great staff, not so great room
We stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon. They have a very friendly staff and the building and landscaping are beautiful. The only problem is the room we stayed in wasn't very nice. The bed linens, bathroom, and decor could use a major upgrade. It was a sacrifice we were willing to make for such a great price and location, but wouldn't stay here again on a "romantic" trip.

Olimendis is the best Mexican food I've ever had! It's just a short walk up the hill on the PCH.

Old unrefurbished rooms
The location is unbeatable. The restaurants are first class. Claus was excellent. However, once you get past the beach and lobby, the rooms are very uncomfortable. Our room was smelly, the bathroom, entrance doors and closets were warped. The bathroom has the original fixtures and lack of hot water. We will not return unless there is a major renovation. The hotel was inexpensive, but you get what you paid for.

Lil disapointed
Went to Laguna for a last minute meet up with a date from LA. Hotel Laguna claimed to be beautifully placed on the beach. Old nastalgia from Hollywood Star - get away in the 1950's . Was looking forward to a nice simple room next to the beach. We arrived and was greeted with a $30 dollar parking fee for two cars in 80% empty parking lot attached to the hotel. The room, was a big disapointment. It had fresh paint, but there was not one picture or piece of art work in the entire room- plain and drab. The room reminded me of my old barracks when I first enlisted in the military when I was 19. Old building with no upgrades. 13 " TV - come on. Frankly was embarrased to bring my date to this room. all for a total of $129 per night plus $30 bucks extra for parking the two cars. Skip it unless your couple of dudes that are just gonna bar hop and need a place to crash when your drunk. beds- I could feel the spring from the matress. very disapointed. Breakfast was held in another hotel room - 7-8 people at once all trying to grab a piece of fruit while the other rooms were under construction/ remodel.

Hotel Laguna - pretty good
Loved being right on the beach. Got a great rate through [...]. The staff was great. Hotel is old, but has charm. Was clean. Didn't let us know ahead of time they were renovating, but still enjoyed our stay. Was in walking distance from a lot of art galleries and wonderful eateries.
