Fanatastic experience
The architecture, landscaped grounds and rooms are amazingly beautiful. The service was superb, with a staff as pleasant as any I have encountered. I would recommend it to any one wishing a secluded feel on an historic golf course just minutes from San Diego and a short drive up the coast for some great dinning.

Use the ameties in the hotel (dining, golf, spa). They are better than anywhere you would travel in La Jolla or San Diego. You stay here because you want to make the Hotel your "home base." And that is how they are set up.

Over priced for a dark room with no view.
we checked in late into a dark room, the bell man said we keep the room dark so it stays cool, the next day woke up to a dark room, tried to open the keratin to bring in the sun only to see we have no view and no sun can reach in this room, very disappointing, complaint to the front desk, and they did nothing about it, this is a good motel 6, not a 4 or 5 start resort

Comfortable and Classic
How can you beat the location? The location in Torrey Pines is exceptional and the view and ambience of the resort is without question a 5 on the bluffs of the golf resort and overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The resort is small enough to be "boutique-ish" yet large enough to feel the comfort and quiet and privacy many people prefer in a larger resort. Overall, the experience was excellent with personalized service (valet and nightly turn down services) that you would expect from a hotel of this caliber. The dining at the restaurant (both) is also highly recommended with fine dining within the hotel and an excellent "grill" near the golf course that provided great quality of food and service and an even better view. The only thing that kept this stay from being a 5 star is the fact that while the rates are likely very high for the stay (typically), we were forced to run the hot water in the shower for some times almost 10 minutes on some mornings to get water temps above just "luke warm" water, which I find unacceptable in any hotel of any level. I was traveling on business, so my time to languish to do so was very limited and inability to get a "hot shower" is a pet peeve while on travel. One other morning, we had maid service in the room and dirty dishes were left behind without a fresh supply (glasses). Again, not the norm, but an irritant when returning for the day. Lastly - while the hotel has wonderful amenities (pool, fitness, etc) - you have to contact the front desk in order to have ice refreshed and are told you will be charged for this service. We like ice in our room and it seemed to be an aggravation when inquiries were made. It is brought at the evening turn down, but many times I'd like it when I like it. Even in many high-end hotels that we've frequented, this is not the norm and is inclusive with the rate for a small tip at delivery that you pay. This also goes for the business center where you have to pay for access to a computer (approx $15/half hour?... and about .50/page to print any documents if memory serves me). Again, charging more for the comfort of this type of hotel should cover these types of charges (ice and computer access) so that you are not "nickel and dimed" on top of the rates paid for the stay. Also, the request to have our bill left under our door the night before departure at 4AM never happened. These types of things are what make a 5 star hotel a 5 star. Still -- due to the quality of the hotel and location for the stay -- we would give the hotel 4 stars with the only complaints being the minor things mentioned. They do need to get the hot water access fixed though -- that will be a consideration when returning to the area.
