Lots of fun in La Jolla
This hotel is just three blocks from the beach for a reasonable price considering the area. Most rooms have a limited view of the ocean from a rather bland balcony. The hotel staff was top notch in terms of helpfulness and courtesy. The maid and valet service was outstanding and cheerful. The room and amenities were average and ho hum despite an attempt at a modern asian motif. Warning: the bed frames are very low and the mattresses will soon need replacement. The complimentary morning joe was quite tasty for this American style coffee lover but expect nothing gratis beyond this. For those requiring espresso based concoctions, a S___bucks is next door along with a convenience store and a S__way. The hotel room service menu looked very pricey for breakfast and dinner. Lunch looked more reasonable. I cannot comment on the quality but the menu selections looked quite trendy and upscale as would be expected for the area. There is no self service laundry area. There was a full-service off-site laundry available at rather high rates. Ice is available but beverage machines are not present. The exercise room was equipped with dumbells, treadmill, low impact machines with a picture window viewing their nicely manicured but average looking grounds. A small heated outdoor pool was handy and private for family or parties with plenty of towels available for guests. The pool temperature was a bit too high for my tastes (like bath water or higher). There was mention of a spa but I had no interest and never saw it. The hotel restaurant, The Grill, was on the top floor. I did not investigate it but it gave the impression of being trendy. Only two extreme negatives: First, the lavatory faucet handles were so modern and smoothly cylindrical as to make them nearly impossible to turn with wet hands. VERY irritating! Second, there is a fifteen dollar per day parking fee. It added a small measure of dissatisfaction at the end of an otherwise very pleasant stay. On the positive: First, there is a complimentary shuttle service, on demand, to take you to the beach, a local restaurant or downtown. Rooms are equipped with a 46" flat screen TV, programmable safe, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, large closet with verticle shoe shelving, the bathrooms are mostly marble tiles with glass shower enclosure, all kept immaculately clean by the very friendly housekeeping staff. For our family vacation purposes, i.e. sightseeing and beachcombing, we had a very pleasant and comfortable week long stay.

Any short comings this property has is more than made up for by the staff. Especially take advantage of the Valet shuttle suggestions for dinner. We were taken down to the village and was dropped off and picked up with no waiting. I would take my family here again for sure, next time I would definitely book 7th floor and up for the ocean view. Short walk to local eating and markets. Oh the jacuzzi was empty and it didn't look like it was being worked on, property was well groomed but the pool area needs some work.

Unbeatable location for the price
La Jolla is a great beach location. La Jolla Shores was only about 1 mile away. The hotel provided a complementary shuttle to locations around La Jolla. The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were up to date and very comfortable. One of the highlights was the 11th floor restaurant with an amazing view of the ocean. My husband and I had dinner while the sun was setting. The food was also very delicious and gourmet.

Excellent Choice
We stayed on the 7th floor w/ ocean view and it was breathtaking. The restaurant has a beautiful view from the 11th floor. I did hear that they are closing the restuarant and turning them into suites. Friendly service and valet personnel was very helpful.

Great location, nice hotel
Great location. We had "garden view" room, but we could see the ocean from our balcony. Nice room, good size. We were close driving distance to hotels, shops, and the ocean. The restaurant in the hotel is pricey, but there are lots of good restaurants nearby. Walking distance to Starbucks & Subway. Kid and animal friendly.

Ask the valet for a map. We got one on our last day from the helpful valet. It was a map of all the shops/restaurants in La Jolla. So helpful!!

A very comfortable place to stay
Very well located. The elevator and hallway was a little bit shabby but the room was inviting with modern appointments and very comfortable. The bathroom had a wonderful walk-in glass door shower with good towels. There is a very nice adjoining patio with comfortable wicker seating. The only surprise was that all parking is valet assisted and not free. But there is parking on the street around the corner if you do not want to pay the additional fee. The reception staff was very welcoming.

Overall great experience!
The overall experience at the hotel was great. The staff was friendly and hospitable. However, the last day the staff did not help my friend and I with our luggage, as well as the front desk man was very unfriendly and acted as though he was doing us a favor. My friend and I also called for a wake-up call, however did not receive one. It is a good thing I set my phone alarm!
