Not As Good As Super 8

My husband and I traveled across I-10 from FL to CA & stayed at 3 B&B's, 2 Super 8's & the Roosevelt. THE WORST exp. was by far the Roosevelt, where we were told there were no reservations (staff blamed [...], or anyone else they could for the "error"), denied access to our vehicle and pointed to areas we wanted to see (the pool, the Marilyn mirror on 2nd floor, lounge). I was told that the confirmation that I printed would not do me any good, as I was trying to show it to the desk clerk to let her know that we did indeed have reservations. We prepaid for two weekend nights and one weekday night, excluding tips and parking, and the clerk handed us a charge summary which included the very day we were checking out, which we had already paid for but were told was not reserved for us. We asked to speak to a manager and were told that the manager was on the phone so we would have to wait.[...]the last evening, which is the Roosevelt's responsibility, is still not refunded to my credit card, and that was five days ago. Had we flown into CA to spend the entire stay there, our vacation would have been ruined. The stars of the show were the lowly bellhops, valets and housekeeping staff who were all gracious and helpful. Also, everything is charged....no complimentary coffee, water or parking. I'm surprised they don't charge for the toilet paper useage.

Great hotel but not cool about parking

Let me start by saying that this was an amazing hotel and I would recommend it to anyone looking to stay on the strip. But there are a few things you should know before you book. [...] you have one and only one option when it comes to parking your car; valet, that's it, no self parking. What you are not told when you book is that it's 30 dollars a night…!!! Why this is not included in the room price I'm not sure but it was not very cool. My last and final word of advice is that the Hotel bar (Paradise pool bar) is WAY, WAY ,WAY overpriced. I ordered two drinks (7&7 and a Gin & Tonic) and was charged 30, yes you read that right, 30 dollars!!! A bottle from the room fridge was 32 dollars. Not to mention it was the worst 7&7 and Gin & Tonic I have ever tasted in my life. Not sure how you can screw up a drink that has two ingredients but this bartender managed to do so. My wife and I ended up going up the street to the Pig & Whistle and had a blast. I highly recommend ditching the overpriced hotel bar and hit the P&W. Like I said at the start of this review, the Hotel is a great place to stay, just not to park or drink.

Not bad, not great

The hotel is rather generic. There are no "extras," really. No coffee, no extra towels or pillows, only one bathrobe per room. The rooms are small, the beds are comfortable. The hallways are dark, and getting to the room involved walking a maze of them. The staff is friendly enough. I can't say I recommend the hotel or that I would stay there again. The pool area is a club at night, so if you want a quiet night's rest, don't stay here. If you're up for a night of partying in Hollywood, this place will do. Not great, but not bad.

COOL HOTEL, BUT......

Hotel itself has a very cool ambiance - almost too cool. The staff seems to be composed of 20 something year old actor wannabes. I often felt that I was inconveniencing them with any requests (probably wasting their time from which they could otherwise be self obsessing or discussing their latest head shots). I had a pair of subscription sunglasses mysteriously disappear from the pool bar. All my requests to please look in the lost and found were denied. I was simply told that no sunglasses were found at that specific time or at that specific location. This clearly would preclude the possibility of the sunglasses either being turned in at a different time or found at a different location. As I have a strong disbelief that there is a market for stolen one year old prescription glasses, I am sure the glasses are still at the hotel (most likely in the lost and found) but the staff is otherwise too preoccupied to retrieve them. Of course, the other possibility is that the hotel attracts unsavory visitors that would stoop to the level of stealing used prescription glasses. Either way, I would have been better off staying someplace else where at which guests are appreciated and staff can take the time to accommodate them. Hotel stay ended up costing me the price of having to replace the glasses; almost two times as much as the cost of my stay.

Excellent and a great Orbitz deal

Excellent choice in the Hollywood, West Hollywood, Beverley Hills area. I selected the Roosevelt for it's location. Fact is most anything else is the same or much more money. The A/C is a little noisy if you are a light sleeper you will hear it come on many times in the night. The service is excellent and right at the top for places I've stayed. My only complaint is the cost to park my car equaled what it cost to rent, $30 per day/ night. Great stay overall and I would recommend it with Orbitz's deals.

Money-saving tip: In Hotel

You can't park on the street or anyplace else to save the $30 or you learn the hard way with a $55 ticket. Some confusion about needing a permit to park on a street although no sign said that clearly so I guess you need to live there to know.

Hipster's paradise

The lobby, library bar, and main restaurant have a lovely old Hollywood decadence that is very attractive, given the hotel's location. The proximity to various Hollywood tourist sites is excellent. Unfortunately, parts of the hotel are periodically off limits to hotel guests, due to private functions, and that occurred frequently enough during our two day stay to prove quite irritating. The pool experience is unique, more akin to performance art than sunning and swimming. Being a hotel guest didn't seem to provide much advantage as far as getting seated around the pool, and the surcharge of $20/hotel guest for use of the pool area on Sunday afternoon seemed unreasonable. The real blemish on the experience was the noisiness of the hotel at night. There was a party being held in the room next to hours on one of the two nights we were there that went into the wee hours and made sleeping impossible. By and large, the hotel appears to cater too, and be patronized by, a 20 something crowd, who mostly seemed very nice, but whose collective idea of having a good time was a little hectic for our more middle aged sensibilities.

Trendy, great for kidless couples

Hotel was exactly what I expected. Has a great pool atmosphere, bar and staff were helpful and friendly. We originally planned this holiday without the kids but ended up bringing them. Not the best choice for kids but I would highly recommend it if the rascals are not coming along.
