Good inexpensive choice
Great location, somewhat dated, low on amenities but a good deal overall. Located right behind the Kodak Theater, the Hollywood Orchid Suites is right in the middle of Hollywood Blvd. The only real complaint about the rooms is that the beds could use updating, the interiors are somewhat dated (they look like they were last decorated in the 60s) but each room does include a kitchenette. There's a pool that's kept very clean and a rooftop garden that's pretty minimal but good for sunbathing. There is a noise problem, as there seem to be deliveries to the Kodak Theater day and night and you're close enough to the loading dock to hear the trucks arrive and leave. If you plan to spend a lot of time in your hotel room I'd probably recommend another hotel, but if you use your room as a base and travel around to see all the sights and events in Hollywood and beyond it's quite a deal. The staff is very friendly and helpful, there's free parking under the building and a free continental breakfast every morning. If you understand and accept the limitations it's an excellent value.

I was barely there, but it was nice
I was a little surprised at how dated the hotel seemed (I assume it had been an apartment house built in the 50s or 60s), but was delighted at the spaciousness of the very clean rooms and the overall service -- and the breakfast. My room faced the street so it could get a little noisy late in the evening, but nothing that was enough to keep me awake. All in all, very reasonably priced, unmatchable location, and a very good experience.

Time-saving tip:
Short walk from hotel
To get to Hollywood Blvd. and the Chinese Theatre, cut through the passageway to the second floor of the shopping center. It'll save you a good five minutes.

Excellent Value, Great Location
The Hollywood Orchid Suites is a great value if you're looking for an affordable place with an awesome location with lots of free valuable amenities. While it's an older property with a lousy bed and occasionally noisy at times, you really can't beat the value for the money. Huge plus is the free secure parking (most places charge $20 per day!). There's free wi-fi, free computer with printer if you don't have your own laptop, free breakfast and a helpful front desk staff. It's very safe in a great location -- right behind the Chinese Graubman theater, Walk of Fame, Kodak theater and Hollywood & Highland Center mall -- all a 1-minute walk away. It's central, between Santa Monica and downtown LA with easy access to 101 so it's the perfect home base. The rooms are suites since they're apartment conversions so there's tons of space! While we didn't use the full kitchen, it was nice to have and we really liked the spaciousness of our room, which included an enclosed patio. My husband and I really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again. I highly recommend for the budget traveler who doesn't need anything fancy but wants a clean, spacious room without getting nickel and dimed for every little thing. It's definitely a hidden gem that I'm glad I found!

Not Applicable
Bring a roll of quarters for the meters. You can save a ton by parking on the street instead of using the valet. One exception -- in downtown Santa Monica, the parking garages are actually free for two hours so go to the garage first before paying on the street or in a private lot or valeting.

Great value
Staff were very friendly, service-oriented, personable, and accomodating. Rooms were clean, breakfast more than adequate, the rate great and the location fantastic. The room is large, bed comfortable, the drapes blocked all the light, and the kitchenette great. Safe in the closet. Great location!!!

Great find
Just steps to the action. Free, safe parking and wireless internet. Kitchenette in large room was great. Staff is super-friendly and helpful. It's older and not upscale, but very nice for the money. TV is too small for big room!

Great location!
The location was perfect. Right in the center of busy, exciting Hollywood. A few steps from the front entrance to the hotel is the back entrance to a 5 story mall, with restaurants, movies and shopping. The parking is free and secure. The rooms are huge; like living in your own apartment with full kitchen. The staff is very attentive. Never used the pool as the weather was cold, but it looked clean. Free breakfast from 8 am to 10 am. I will definitely stay here again.

Fantastic location and price.
Although a bit old the hotel was clean with a great location and a wonderful free breakfast, every need was accounted for and we would surely stay there again.
