Eureka Econo Lodge

The place was really old and cell block looking. It was almost embrassing to take my guest there.

Functional place to stay

The hotel is at the North end of town. It is average, maybe a bit dated, but the man at the desk was great. Enjoyed the half Costco muffins on the way out in the morning.

Could be better.

Positive: It was quiet, the whole place is like a bomb shelter as far as sound filtering and making sure no one else is heard. I rather like that. Negative: Air conditioner is way out of service. Froze up a lot and didn't exactly provide anything towards the act of cooling a room of that size ... it was simply overpowered by the job it had to do. Electrical connections, you have one or two free ones in inconvenient places. I usually bring a powerstrip on my trips to deal with that, but I forgot. So, bring one if you bring a laptop or want to charge your cell phone. Showerhead comes to about chest height and I'm just under 6 foot. There are rocks on the beach in Crescent City softer than the bed. I booked for two days, stayed one night, didn't return for the second. In essence: Summer time brings about shortages in Northern California for accommodations. This place has walls, it's sturdy, and it's quiet. But don't expect anything else. Recommend only as a last resort.

Three day stay

It's pretty ghetto even for a crumby hotel, the location was central and they allow dogs plus hey, it's a good price. The lay out of the room was nice there was even a small fridge and microwave. But if your a clean freak this place might make your skin crawl, the linens and towels were all clean and fine but the mattress sides were pretty filthy with brown stains and such. The room it's self was tidy and the staff seemed nice, it's just old and worn. Also the hotel It's right next to the 101 and the traffic is pretty loud. All and all we got what we paid for, and it was a only $10 a night for the dog to stay in the room which was a big plus!

Basic comfort

This was just a stop over for us as we were traveling up to Oregon. It was a convenient place to rest, and we just needed to sleep. Got in pretty late, but the front desk person came right away when we rang the bell. I had accidentally booked a smoking room (even though I wrote in non-smoking in the preferences). The man was very nice and switched us to a non-smoking room without fuss. It was a bare bones room, but we somehow got upgraded to a room with a kitchen (not that we used it). The water was hot and the shower strong so we basically had what we needed for the night. Some of the lights didn't work, but we were too tired to care. For the price (which was a little spendy for the type of place), it was an ok stay. I have to admit that I was very impressed with the smooth way the front desk person handled my booking error. I would give a 2 stars for the actual room (which is what I expected), and a 4 star for his service.

appropriate for the price

The room was very clean and appropriate for the price we paid, and compared to the price of other rooms in this city. The heated, small indoor pool was a plus. The pool, water, and enclosure appeared to be very clean. There was a traffic signal noise that was irritating, and I was disappointed they diluted the orange juice so obviously.
