Carter House Inns is a collection of Victorian buildings nestled along the Lost Coast in historic Eureka, California. These upscale inns are just a 7-minute walk from Old Town Eureka, offering the perfect spot for lodging & fine dining at Restaurant 301. Located near beautiful Humboldt Bay, our inns consist of 33 rooms and five buildings. Our guests have the option to choose from traditional B rooms in the Carter House, more modern queen rooms and suites within the Hotel Carter and Bell Cottage, or our luxurious private cottages: Annie's House and Carter Cottage. The first building was inspired by the Murphy House originally built from 1884 1885 in San Francisco and destroyed in the famous San Francisco earthquake and fire of 1906. In 1978, Mark Carter found the plans for the Murphy House in a Eureka antique store and decided to build a replica now known as the Carter House. To his surprise, when he began drawing up the new plans he discovered that the original house had been designed by the famous Newsome Brothers of San Francisco, the same architects who had created the lavish Carson Mansion just up the road.
