Wish I would have paid little extra for something better
Right when we walked in the overwhelming smell of smoke took over (booked a non-smoking). We were so tired and it was so late we sprayed a ton of air freshener. Then the carpet was so wet we had to wear our shoes/sandals anytime we got up. Just dark and dingy. Bed was nasty, stains everywhere. Glad we brought our own sheets ( the disinfected immediately when returned home)!! Just pay extra and stay somewhere else...do not bring kids here blllahhuugghh!! Next hotel we will definitely upgrade a tad!!!

Disappionted stay
As non-smokers, we requested a non-smoking room. When we opened the door, the smell of smoke was very evident and the room reeked. The sink had little water comming out of the faucet and No HOT water there. The shower was ok. I told the office when we left, and the response was "I will tell someone". We are returning to that area within 60 days, and we will NOT be staying there. I am seeking other Motels in the area to make a reservation. That Motel needs new Managment and repairs.

We had a coupon for "On the Border" restaurant. We saw an advertisement and there was one within a 10 minute drive. That was a great experience.

Bad experience
We were booked into a Non-smoking room, but the room smelled of cigarette smoke and there was an ashtray in the room. The front desk said this was a non-smoking room. They did put us on the lower floor as requested. The sink had very little water comming out of the faucet and NO HOT water available there. The shower was fine, but the room reeked of smoke. The tv worked ok.

We had a coupon for the "On the Border Mexican Restaurant". We found one with a map on some brochure and enjoyed dining there. We are planning another trip to San Diego area within 60 days and will need a motel. We will not stay at that Motel 6 and will look at other Motels in the area. Our stay there was not good. I told the front desk at checkout about the room smell and the lack of water at the sink. The response was "I will let someone know".

A for price and location, D for quality
The location was perfect, right next to all the freeways we needed, and it was very quite. My only real complaints are that it does not go over and beyond to make it a nice trip. There was no shampoo or conditioner, and only two pillows on the bed (where we both like to sleep with two each). Also the bed was not very comfortable, and the very thin scratchy comforter had cigarette burns on it. The price was nice, but I have never felt so uncomfortable in a motel before.

Cost us an $11 taxi ride to get to The Stone Brewery. Its a nice restaurant, and were thankful for the reasonable price taxi ride so we did not have to worry if we would get back safe.

Bad experience, won't go back
We had a late check in, but the staff was so rude, she acted like we were bothering her, we were so unwelcome, we made a couple of questions about the area and the place and the answer was as rude as the receptionist. Finally when we got to our room, we wanted to take a shower after a crazy day and there was no shampoo or soap. (always bring some myself, but I forgot this time of course). Then we got burned sheets, too many cigarret burns in one sheet. It was disgusting. No room decor, etc. etc... We'll never go back to this hotel.

The staff was friendly and the location looked safe. We did not expect a big room or anything special but while we stayed at this hotel we could hear a couple arguing very loudly and violently. It was hard to sleep after hearing that.

Comforts of home
Motel 6 in Escondido CA was efficient for the needs I had--I was in San Diego for Comic-Con but all the hotels there were taken up. The hotel structure itself was quite large; the room, with queen bed and standard bathroom was just what I needed. Hot running water for baths and the bed itself quite comfortable. It was also within five minutes of a dear friend from childhood whom I visited. I knew the way around town as I lived in Escondido as a child. TV was quite adequate as I could see the major San Diego channels; unfortunately on radio I could not get KNX in Los Angeles (I could only hear it on the car radio). Still, KPBS in San Diego came in and was fine. Only downsides were some litter in the parking lot and at the building's other end was a car with flat tires in which a couple of vagrants were occupied. But they bothered nobody so nothing adverse happened.

Sightseeing tip:
Short drive from hotel
Oceanside, 20 miles away, has some terrific beaches, isn't crowded, and the folks there are real. Down some 10 miles from there is Del Mar Fairgrounds where they hold horse races from July to September.
