Overall pleasant experience
The hotel was easy to locate and very near the beach and shops in Encinitas. The staff was friendly and had us checked in and answered any questions we had in no time. The hotel room was clean and the location was quiet so we got a good nights rest.

Good Value!
This place was very nice for its price. I can tell room was relatively clean and comfort if you consider its price. My biggest complain was that hotel is located right beside of rail road. So it could be little bit noisy while you sleep. However, if you're not that sensitive and want to save some bucks, this is the right place.

not much to brag about
It was like the old time motor inn where you hear everyone when they slam the door to the room right next to you one hundred times a night.People shouting a little too loudly, talking right outside our window where I had to go outside and ask them to be quite so we could sleep(not an easy thing to do these days because who knows about people?) The price was way too much for what you get. A not-even-orange juice with ordinary coffee and toast breakfast. Give me a break, you can do better than that for this price, or make it cheap and then it is ok. All in all,we will not go back.I would rather pay another $50 a get something nice, quite, respectful with a decent breakfast.

Good Value
Small very cozy motel right on PCH. Not a franchise. Staff might seem a little weird, but overall friendly. Rooms are small, but just enough for a couple. Our conditioner was kinda loud to the point where we would wake up at night. Rooms are not super clean, but clean enough if you are not a clean freak. There are train tracks 100ft away, which might bother those whose rooms face that way. A couple of cheap food joints, liquor stores and dive bar within walking distance. Overall good for the money paid. You get what you pay for.

Friendly & Clean
Check in and [eople at the desk are invariably friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I had a great time in Leucadia seeing friends and going to the beach. Buy douts down the street and Mexican food in Encinitas! this was my second stay at the Ocean Inn, and will not be the last.

About par for the area
Pros: Lots of free parking in a quaint, surfer town that has very little. The free WiFi was welcome because AT&T cell service there is lame to none. Quiet at night. Cons: hey, it's an old motel. The bath towels are scratchy and instead of shampoo I had bubble bath.

Worked well for us
We combined pleasure with "business" over the Easter weekend, as we live in El Cajon and go to church in Encinitas. Because of extra rehearsals and set-up on Saturday we decided to "move" to North County for the weekend. The Ocean Inn was economical enough for us to stay two nights for what one night costs at many other hotels in the area. In our spare time, we took a stroll on the beach, although the walk to get there and back from the hotel was farther than we expected, due to beach access stairways being far apart in the residential area along the coast. Next time, we'll drive closer and walk from there. There will definitely be a next time, as we were pleased with what we got for the money. Though not fancy at all, the room was clean, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The wi-fi access in our room (more-or-less directly above the office) was a bit spotty, but survivable. The breakfast is very sparse, with toast and prepackaged sweet rolls the main options. I think at least cold cereal and hot oatmeal could be added with minimal impact on the management. The coffee was very good, however, and I'm pretty picky about that. We would recommend this place to any of our friends who like value for their money and don't need a fancy place just to spend the night.

Long walk from hotel
Physically, the hotel is close to the beach (but not in sight of the ocean), but practically, it's a long walk, due to beachfront houses having no public access down to the sand. There are two public stairways, one to the north and one to the south. We walked the complete circle and we think the one to the south is a bit closer to the hotel.

No plush towels, simple and affordable
The room was simple, somewhat spare. Everything felt a bit on the dated side including the air-con/heater and bathroom towels. That being said, it was sufficiently comfortable for one night. Make sure to get a room away from the road which can be quite noisy.
