overnight stay

The outside and inside looked OK, but a little bit outdated. There's some distinct herb-like smell in the hallway when we checked in, and was still there when we checked out. However, there was a strong smell of burns when we left for our friend's party. This was not the ordinary experience you would like to encounter. We came back at around 11 p.m., slept right away. We were woken up at 2 a.m. by the smoke alarm, called the front desk and asked if there was a fire in the hotel. The man came up, asked us if we had just taken a shower. We told him that we were asleep and got woken up by the alarm, and didn't know what was going on. He then said to leave the door and window open for a while to let the air out (THIS WAS A NON-SMOKING ROOM AND WE ARE NOT SMOKERS!) He then went to the end of the hallway to open the door to let air in.We closed the door and window after a while, but decided to leave the window opened because the burn smell was really strong. It was strange that the man didn't show any concerns or alarm, and that it only happened in our room. Next door tenents did even knew about it. We packed everything just in case, but just short of checking out because it was too dark to drive on the road. My daughter got a stomachache in the morning, probably because of the cold. It was about 30 - 40 degrees outside at night. We checked out before 11 a.m. after briefly falling asleep. Didn't even bother to take a shower or eat any continental breakfast as offered in their amenities. I hope this doesn't happened to other people, but I strongly suspected that it was not the first time happened since the guy was so indifferent! We had to air our clothes, and washed the others as soon as we came home because the burn smell was still there when we got home. We had travelled a lot but never encounter something so bizzare like that!

Good location for a small price

I enjoyed staying here largely due to the convenience of being located walking distance (about 3 blocks) from the beach and being near Encinitas, Del Mar, Carlsbad. Also going to the Farmer's Market on Sunday right across the street was awesome! parking is free too so that was nice. Only downside was the very strong smell of curry in the front area and hallways. There was one day it was in the room too and after leaving the place my hair smelled of curry. It is still well worth the price and I'd go back again.

Quiet beach hideaway

This was a quiet place outside of the day to day bustle. I enjoyed the walks on the beach and the local shops in downtown Encinitas, CA.

Online searches for vegan restaurants missed a few gems right downtown. There are a few Thai, Chinese, & Vietnamese options just south of Encinitas Blvd on Coast Hwy 101.

Simple but Comfortable

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. We only stayed one night. A friend of ours was getting married at Moonlight Beach. My only complaint was the advertising about "walking distance" to Moonlight Beach. "Hiking" distance might better describe it. We chose to drive as it is more than a couple of blocks away.

Encinitas Vacation

Very quiet hotel. Very convenient to lots of attractions. Right on Hwy 101 Drive up and down the coast to lots of towns, shopping, and attractions. The "deluxe" continental breakfast is not what I have had in other hotels. It was the same every morning. muffins, toast, bagels, juice, coffee nothing hot, but lots of reasonable places to get a good breakfast. Went to the races in Del Mar and the San Diego zoo, San Diego is 30 min away

Adequate and Comfortable

Excellent price for walking distance to the beach; not spectacular, but more than adequate for a quick overnight. I would have liked an ice machine on the second floor, but other than that, stay was a very good deal.
