Lower your expectations

As long as you don't go in expecting an actual "resort" you'll be fine. This is basically a Motel 6 that happens to have several pools. The rooms are outdated (tube TVs? REALLY?!) but are quite large and spacious. The hotel is very no-frills and there is absolutely nothing in the town of Desert Hot Springs (you'll have to drive over 20 minutes in to Palm Springs to get any sort of shopping / dining / night life options). But the appeal of this property is the several heated pools that are open 24/7. That is the best feature of the property. There's no one on duty so everyone openly drinks / smokes around the pools at all hours. Which is fantastic if you want to enjoy a beer while soaking in a hot tub at 2 in the morning. It's a very casual, fun atmosphere (but be sure NOT to get a room pool side unless you want to hear people partying outside your window all night).

Get less then what ya paid for

I loved that our shower head was broken and the front desk guy said we would have to pay to upgrade our room to one with a working shower. Luckily a maintenance guy overheard all this and offered to look at it and changed it out.

Motel 6 only more expensive

When we entered our room there was a giant cockroach on the bathroom floor. The room was very dated and the towels were old and worn. They didn't even offrer pool towels so we had to use these tiny bath towels when at the pool. Also, the TV remote didn't work. Given the price per night I expected much more than we got. I don't ever plan to return to this hotel.

great family experience

Our whole family enjoyed staying there. The hot and cold spring water pool is excellent and very hard to find anywhere else. The breakfast is excellent although dinner needs some improvement. The bed is very comfortable too. Overall great experience and we will come back.

Good place to getaway!

We like to go here for a nice break with the hot spring waters. It isn't widely known here, but you can get water from the spa while you are in the pool area. The WIFI and phone service did go down one evening and this was annoying, and no discount was offered for this, but fortunately we didn't have any emergencies.

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

There is a great, reasonably priced Chinese Restaurant (Kam Lun) across the street next to the 7-11. And the Mexican Restaurant (South of the Border) down the street 1/2 mile. They have vegan cheese even :)

great family vacation spot

Beautiful grounds and 8 great hot spring pools. We had a great time. The only tips that I would give is that it is about 15 minutes from Palm Springs, the location was not wonderful for walking, and bring your own pool towels. Also ask for a bottom floor pool view room, it will have it's own gate entrance to the pools from your room. The pools left your skin soft and refreshed. Also, the resaurant was wonderful, but a little on the slow side so have a drink and relax.

Room cleanliness and staff friendliness could be better

Our party consisted of 3 families. Family One had broken TV (never been fixed). Family Two had broken coffemaker and not enough pillows (never been fixed). And finally Famiy Three (us) had toilet not cleaned and carpet not vacuumed for 2 days. Pool towers were always not available and you were lucky to get one after 4th or 5th attempt.

A nice overall package

Nice big rooms. The grounds and pools are very nice. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Breakfast at the restaurant was quick and sitting outside was a really nice way to start each day. Though we don't have children, the hotel had many families, though I think the spas are a bit too hot for younger children. It is fairly far removed from Palm Springs proper, but a couple of roads up seems to have many opportunities for running, biking and hiking a bit. There is a huge golf course to the north west. From other reviews we were not sure what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised. Though it is not brand new.... it is quite nice.

Entertainment tip: Short drive from hotel

If you plan to be poolside a lot, bring a couple of large plush towels since they don't provide them. Go into Palm Springs if you are staying on Thursday night. The street fair is fun.

Rude Front Desk Staff

We had a very bad experience with the Staff at chek-in (Angelina). The room's A/C didn't work , the room was stuffy and stunk. After 3 calls to the front desk, the attendant hung up on me! Rude and unprofessional to say the least, not once she apologized for the inconvenience. It took me to go to the front desk and demand servive to finally get it fixed. The Spa facilities and staff changed things for the better but I think the pictures on Web are not recent, the facilities and pools are old and worn down.
