4 Night Stay at Stratford
I booked this hotel for business and it was decent. I got a very good price on it, which was a plus. It is a motel, although it has been remodeled. It's in Del Mar and there are not many lights in the evening (it's very dark), so if I were a woman, I might be a little nervous. The internet was sloooow when it was working, which was only for 1/2 my stay. The room itself was comfortable, although the walls must be made of rice paper because you can hear everything in the room next door as well as outside. Overall a decent stay for the price.

Okay for short visit when spending most time away from motel. Stone work on walkways and patio was very nice. Luke-warm hot tub. No dressers for clothes. No heat in bathroom. No drawers in bathroom to keep personal items. No table or desk to sit at.

Quick stop over
Staff quite nice. A little less comfortable for a single female because rooms are sort of separate bungalows and security seemed not quite as high. Room newer, clean towels and linens. Floors a bit dirty. Overall for $100 a great value!

Pleasant stay
Great location, very nice rooms. The hotel is upgrading and there is constraction going on, but my room was located on the other end and I was not bothered at all. Hotel staff is nice and professional. The only minus was breakfast-quite below par, but I understand there will be new restaurant in the complex soon.

Surf to Turf
Hotel is located about 2 blocks from the ocean and about a mile or so from the Delmar race track. The purpose of my trip was my initial visit to the horse track and I was not disappointed, it is spectacular. The hotel has many separate buildings terraced on a hillside down toward the water. It has a condo or bungalow type feel to it as opposed to a standard hotel. Location is great, Torrey Pines beach just to the south and Carlsbad a few miles north. Not chic or upscale like some larger resorts but very clean and comfortable with nice views of the ocean. Only negative was the free breakfast, that was about how much it was worth other than the coffee. I am already planning a trip next year to stay here again, it is well worth it.

Sightseeing tip:
Short drive from hotel
If going to the race track ( late July- early Sept.) park in the dirt area East of the tracks main parking lot. Price is the same but you get away about 45 minutes quicker after the last race.

Probably better for leisure than busines
The Stratford Inn looks a bit motel like at first sight. This is deceptive however as most of it is of newish build. The rooms are attractive and kept spotless. I enjoyed my stay, the location is great and Del Mar has plenty of (expensive) shops and restaurants. My room was a ground floor one with 3 windows which meant if you wanted any privacy you had to close all the blinds. I could also have done with a desk, something I'm used to having when travelling on business. Unfortunately the weather was so poor when I was there that I didn't get to try either pool for my entire 12 day stay. The gym looked nice and I might have used it if it had had a rowing machine. The business centre was closed for the entire time I was there, something that might have frustrated some. I sleep through pretty much anything, but lighter sleepers might have been disturbed by the noise from the road in the mornings. The noise of my neighbour flushing his toilet early in the mornings certainly did disturb me a couple of times!

The staff was knowledgeable. The facilities were great-mini Frig and microwave. Located a few blocks from the beach and a free night. Breakfast was average.

Great room, great location, great price
The rooms were decorated tastefully. It was totally great. We walked to the restaurants and walked along the beach. Our kids were at UCSD volleyball camp... We were close enough to visit them or not. Only thing lacking was a dresser to store the clothes. The staff said that the toss up was between the dresser and the microwave/refrigerator.

Old long time favorite - but renovations
Last time our xpensive ocean front view room looked out over a large hole for new construction > totally ruined any enjoyment possible from looking our the motel window. This time the pool reno was really noisey right at 8 am - blowing away any late sleep possibilities. Seems this Del Mar Landmark is under going significant upgrade of each room that seemingly will go on for several years. Staying elsewhere for next year's trip to San Diego

Dining tip:
Long walk from hotel
The Poiseden Restaurant is superb - for less casual the mexican joint is the Happening De Feugo right on the main drag - just a couple blocks from L Aubrege
