Great room

This room puts 5-Star hotel rooms to shame: Great layout, roomy, good bed, large flat-scren t.v., microwave in room, a safe, etc., as good as (better even) than the Hyatts and Mariotts I have been staying at. The location was a bit tricky (one way street), the breakfast was continental and in the lobby, the pool and spa were being fixed or something, but full marks on the room.

California Dreamin

Beware! This hotel is one of those that looks better on paper...er...online. Very average hotel for the price that needs a ton of TLC regarding amenities. Continental breakfast is standing room only with very meager choices. No pool or jacuzzi available during our visit due to the fact that they were both occupied by a jackhammer for renovations (at least they're working on things)

Good value

Hotel ist a bit old, but clean, very convenient location, we had a nice big room, a bit old, but clean. Close to Newport Beach and Laguna Beach and even not to far to other beaches further south. Good value for very decent price.

Good Hotel

Hotel was in good shape. Rooms were much larger than I expected and they were clean too. Great location only a few miles from the beach. Reasonably priced when compared to other hotels in the area.

Overall Comments

Overall: Appearance of hotel is worse than it looks when first entering. The stairway, passage and walls need power washing (very dirty). Interior decorations need to be brighter to have a better feel. Amenities: Good stuff. Parking, pool, computer access, TV, microwave, fridge, study desk, iron/board (by request), all available. Room Cleanliness: It was clean but the carpet and drapes were too dark so it made the room look dark and a bit unclean. Room Comfort: Linens on beds ok nothing special. Lots of towels provided. Sink nice but shower area needs updating. Staff: Nicer than most hotels with bigger prices. Value: Ok.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

If you love the beach you are at the right location. Dining in the area is a bit high priced so you may need to drive to other areas. 9 miles to a beautiful shopping mall at Irvine.

Hard To Find

The hotel was clean and quiet. However, getting to the hotel was a challenge because of the frontage roads and one way pattern. I had expected the hotel to be near the John Wayne Airport. Well, it was not near the airport. I was attending an event at the Hilton Hotel. Getting to the hotel was not convenient. There didn't seem to be an efficient street connection from the Travel Lodge to the Hilton Hotel. Perhaps a resident of the community might be able to find a short cut.

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

There were no convenient restaurants. The continental breakfast was a joke. I drove about ten miles in the direction of the Hilton Hotel where there was a Wahoo Restaurant, a Thai resturant, Sports Bar, McDonald's etc.

Unbeatable price for the location!

This hotel is perfect for the beach scene. We visited Newport Beach (10 minutes up the street) as well as Huntington Beach (10 Minutes also!). The hotel is on the main drag with EASY access to everything. Many choices for dining. We also went to the Newport Aquatics Club for kayaking. It was only $20 for an hour in a 2 man kayack. The hotel was clean. When making a reservation, request a room on the backside of the hotel or come with earplugs as the front faces 55. I would stay here again.
