Beautiful stunning place, awful management

I called a month in advance (at the time that I booked my stay) to make sure their shuttle would be able to take me to my event. I gave them the address, my contact info, and the dates of my stay (a 7-day stay) and they agreed to take me, only warning that shuttle trips to and from the airport would be a priority. I was fine with that. When I arrived however, they denied ever making that claim, had no record of me calling, and then admit that they recently changed their shuttle radius to 3 miles and so that why they would not honor their earlier agreement with me. That ended up costing me an unexpected $250 on the rental car. Had I known that in advance, I would definitely stayed elsewhere. Additionally, promises made to me by one staff members were denied by another, just a lot of miscommunication all around. For example, one shuttle driver agreed to drive me, another yelled at me the entire way back to the hotel for even asking for the ride and scolding me about their shuttle radius, mocking me, etc etc (awful ride back), then the manager told me to check out early and stay elsewhere if I needed the ride, but then the next day I came back to a message on my phone saying that the shuttle had waited for me and that I never showed up. I felt bad for wasting the time of the nice shuttle driver but I had already been told there would be no more courtesy shuttle rides. Just overall poor management that can't honor their promises. I advise no to trust them and who knows what other sudden changes they will make in the future. Note that they had my contact info with the dates and chose not to notify me of their new policy. The hotel itself was truly amazing, with a serene and historic feel, fireplace in the lobby, entry way when I entered my suite. Note that the walls between rooms block no noise, none. I could hear the guy next to me the first few days in the bathroom (gross) down to his gargling and spitting, and the last day I heard a child crying in the room next door so clearly that I panicked for a moment thinking the crying child was actually in MY room. This child threw a temper tantrum well past 2am when I had to wake up early. My last downside is that there is a sheer curtain but the opaque drapes do not move. There is really almost no privacy at night. I was alone in the room but felt the need to change in the bathroom for privacy and wasn't comfortable having the lights on at night and more than I absolutely had to.

I'll be back!

This hotel was awesome. The staff was friendly & helpful, the room had one of the most comfortable beds I've slept in, and I heard absolutely no noise from either adjoining room. The only thing I'd say they could improve on was the breakfast. They ran out of scrambled eggs & it took a while to replenish them, the oatmeal was very runny. Other than that, I wouldn't change a thing about my stay.

Great hotel at a great price!

I took a shot by choosing this hotel strictly from customer reviews and the price. After picking up our daughter at the John Wayne airport it took about five minutes to get to the hotel. We walked in and found it to be beautiful and the staff was great. Our Suite was very nice and extremely clean and comfortable. We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant and the food was excellent and no more expensive than most places, with free breakfast buffet every morning. We enjoyed our stay thoroughly.

Ayers Hotel and Suite Costa Mesa

I have traveled all around the world and Ayers Hotel and Suites in at the top of my list.. Location was perfect! Thought when I arrived, because of close proximity to airport and HWY 73 that it would be noisy. It was so quiet that when I woke up on first night the quiet was almost too quiet (live on ocean). Room was well layed out, ample room, good decor, staff GREAT. Price of room included breakfast buffet and was not your standard buffet. Fresh scrambled eggs, bacon, hot cakes or french toast. Everything was PERFECT. I was there for one week and it was a pleasure!

Handsome and convenient

First time at Ayres. It is quite close to the airport but, unlike other reviewers, I did not have trouble with much noise from the jets. My check-in was smooth. The inside patio for dining was very attractive, though in February I chose not to eat there. My room was large, clean, comfortable and well-appointed. I would stay here again if I were flying out of Orange Country Airport.

Welcome to Ayres, Don't Expect Sleep

I booked this room two months in advance for a Valentine's Day weekend trip and I regret not choosing some other medium-budget hotel (e.g. Best Western or similar). Before I go any further, I will say that Ayres has a couple of things going for it. The people at the front desk were always very nice and responsive. When I asked for an item from housekeeping, they showed up within minutes with more than I asked for. They offered free Wi-Fi, which worked the majority of the time (not all of the time, but when has ANY hotel been able to provide that?). There was a small refrigerator in the room (always handy), and the hotel lobby was quite nice, with a well-functioning business center. Now on to the negative things... 1. A hotel's first and foremost responsibility should be to provide a guest with a good night's sleep. In the 5 nights we stayed at Ayres, neither of us got a full, uninterrupted 8 hours of sleep. This is THE primary reason for this review's rating. The bed was uncomfortable and dipped slightly in the middle. The pillows were abnormally large, so it was a choice between my neck straining upwards all night or simply not using a pillow. 2. Contributing to the lack of sleep was our corner room. Usually a corner room with three windows is a good thing. Not here. The room was the closest room possible to the busy freeway (and Bristol street), and provided a clear view of the 7-11 next door, so we had street lights galore streaming in through the windows at night, and the sounds of sports cars racing and planes flying overhead every few minutes. Normally, I would just close my curtains, but for some reason I have yet to understand, they put screws into the curtain rods to prevent you from closing the curtains! So we had three windows that offered full 24/7 views into our room (with one of those half-transparent curtains being the only element of privacy), and that also meant all the outside lights streaming into the room. All. Night. Long. I woke up several times a night and tossed and turned to find a sleeping angle that would not have me staring into a street lamp. 3. Another reviewer mentioned the walls were paper-thin, but I felt that the DOOR was the paper-thin part of the room. From 5:30 AM to 10:00 AM, I heard every family on the 2nd floor as they left the hotel, kids screaming bloody murder and all. I think the corner room contributed to catching all the sound waves somehow. Between the screaming kids IN the hotel and the screaming planes and cars OUTSIDE the hotel, it was a VERY noisy experience. (Planes do stop flying later at night) 3. I usually don't have a problem with handicap/accessible rooms, but I found it strange that they would put me in one when booking so far in advance. In any event, this room had low hangers and no way to remove the hangers, so my suit pants (and my wife's, as well) both draped on the ground when hung up. I ended up laying them on top of the wardrobe closet, which was surprisingly clean (another good job, housekeeping!). The accessible room also meant a very low shower head, a high toilet, and various other features that are great for those who need it, but are troublesome for most others. 4. The iron and ironing board worked, but the pad for the ironing board was wrinkled to a point of being unusable. Trying to iron on it caused MORE wrinkles, so I had to use a towel as a pad. Really, pads are not that expensive to replace... 5. Oddly, there was no wired ethernet network - it was all Wi-Fi. Not a huge problem, since the Wi-Fi signal was decent most of the time, but strange. I also had trouble finding outlets to plug in things like cell phone chargers. Pretty much all of them were taken up already by lamps or alarm clocks or whatever. There was an adapter under the desk that opened up a couple of outlets so I made do with that. Overall, I've stayed in a lot worse, but this place just didn't deliver the rest I needed after several stressful days of driving around.
