In 1896, 2 Houses of unknown vintage were moved by barge across San Diego Bay to Coronado from National City. There were transported to the present location at 964 D Avenue and joined together with an additional structure for the purpose of operating a public lodging house. This establishment began operation as the Cherokee Lodge and has 12 bedrooms plus common areas. The Cherokee Lodge derives its name from the Cherokee roses that bordered the property at the turn of the century. The Cherokee Lodge is located just 1 short block from the center of downtown Coronado and only 4 blocks from one of the finest beaches in southern California. Guests have numerous options for meals and entertainment. Come and enjoy historic Coronado and the Cherokee Lodge.

Quaint B&B, beautiful gardens

The owner of the hotel is very nice and willing to talk about the history of the Lodge. The gardens are First place winners. They add a special atmosphere to the place, beautiful sweet smelling roses. The location is ideal, just a block away from downtown Coronado and not too far from the beach. This is a great place if your looking for a quiet getaway.

Good Coronado location

The Cherokee Lodge was a wonderful location from which to explore Coronado by walking. The hospitality was very friendly and helpful. A little more counter space in the bathroom would have been helpful. It is just a short block to Orange Ave where there are many restaurants and any store you might need. We look forward to returning.

Craftsman Bed and Breakfast on Coronado Island, CA

Lovely old Craftsman style bed and breakfast just off Orange Ave (main street/downtown area) on Coronado Island, California. Beautifully landscaped. Staff friendly and very accomodating. Your comfort is their main priority. Rooms vintage with an old time homey feel. Quaint and comfortable with small refrigerators in the room and a common lounge on the first level. Nice ocean breaze when windows are open, but there are room air conditioners should you require it a bit cooler. 1 block walking distance to wonderful restaurants and the Lamb's Players Community Theatre. Approximately 2 block walk to the historic Del Coronado Hotel. Enjoyed our stay very much!

small quaint quiet sleep

Cherokee lodge has an award winning garden, which is pleasant to see at the entry. The neighborhood feels safe and is close to shops. Upstairs room is difficult for carrying up baggage, and closet space is dark, with a small bathroom. Staff is pleasant, but not available much of the time. Room has comfortable bed and t.v., and pleasant view. Inside not well lit for nightime reading and not much space to move. Be sure you can stay for the breakfast, which has limited hours, however, we were kindly accomodated and given a meal at another time, just ask at restaurant, which was nearby and good.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

The only public access to the beach is at the Del Coronado hotel a few blocks away, and the locals go there as well. Rent a bike to see the island for a fun and inexpensive tour.
