close getaway from san jose,ca

we went to stay cool as the weather was warming up in the santa clara valley. the temperature was excellent.the sea breeze wondereful. location was very close to everything in carmel and there is a free shuttle bus that passes in front of the motel it run a loop thru carmel from dowtown to the mission, block from the beach back to the motel then it starts over again , the bus will return every 30 minutes to each stop. the service will end september 7th 2009 according to the signs at the various stops. you will use the shuttle as parking space shortage and somewhat hillylocation make walking a chore if you want to go to the beach then back up the hill to your room. the market next door was perfect for buying a picnic lunch to go. overall stay was better than others i,ve had that cost me more.

Very Comfortable and Accommodating

It was very nice and quiet. We arrived somewhat late because we were attending a wedding and were not able to check in until after the reception. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I went down to the office after 10 to get change for the vending machines and there was not a single complaint. In fact, he was happy to help. The rooms are a nice size and very clean and comfortable. It was a very nice experience overall.

Location is Perfect!

We have stayed at the Pebble Beach properties, the Cypress Inn and the Tickle Pink Inn--all lovely, but for the value and the location, this hotel is just perfect! It is quaint, clean, offers a nice breakfast included with the room and the staff were all friendly during all of our stays here. The room is a little small, but the amenities (fireplace, linens, remodeled bathrooms) make up for it. The location is perfect for starting at the top of Ocean Avenue and meandering your way through Carmel-by-the-Sea. Ample parking and good deals make this a return property for our annual trip to Carmel!

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

Don't miss dinner at sunset at Clint Eastwood's Mission Ranch restaurant. It's a short drive from the hotel and offers a gorgeous view of pasture, Carmel Beach and the mountain range! Dine indoors or out--consistently delicious food and perfect atmosphere for an evening out!

Best Western Carmel Bay View Inn

The hotel was in a great location, easy to walk to all the shops and restaurants of Carmel. The room was a good size and quite pretty. The pool was nice and warm and uncrowded. The continental breakfast was a bit more generous than most, with hard boiled eggs in addition to the usual stuff. The only thing that I missed that they should add is a coffee/cookies service in the lobby in the afternoon. Anyone that has travelled and stayed in a Carmel inn or hotel comes to expect that small detail.

Great Price for the View

Our hotel was in central location to shops, the beach, and free parking for both, our cont. breakfast was excellent, all we needed and the staff friendly. Our room was so cute with the fireplace and very clean, no smells. Our view was very nice. We were more than satisfied. Unlike most of the hotels down there, the parking was free and easy, nice spots to park, almost to the front door to room.

Outstanding location

The hotel is located within easy walking distance of the many restaurants and galleries of Carmel. Our room was on the corner of the top floor with a small balcony which allowed us to enjoy spectacular views of the ocean and the town. The views were worth the price of the stay. The gas fireplace added to both the ambiance and comfort of the chilly winter evenings.

Although there are several great restaurants very near, Try Fishwife in Pacific Grove for an excellent change of pace. Remember to make reservations for dinner at most eateries.

Perfect Location for a Walkable Weekend

We visit Carmel at least once a year and this Best Western is one of our favorite places to stay. Okay, so it's not the Ritz, but we don't need the Ritz (or it's prices!) My husband likes to park the car and never touch it again until we have to leave. The Bay View Inn allows us to do just that. Everything in downtown Carmel is w/in easy walking distance from here. Next door is a great little grocery store w/a nice deli in the back where you can get sandwiches and eat them in the park across the street. Ocean Ave. (the main drag) is a block and a half down the hill where you'll find the Carmel Plaza (a mini-mall of shops). And, of course, all up and down Ocean Ave. are fun, quaint and interesting shops to visit. And if you want to run over to the Crossroads or Banyard shopping centers, they're just a quick hop (by car) down Hwy. 1. The best clam chowder we've found in town is at A.W. Shuck's on Ocean (if you don't mind the sherry in the chowder), but for really good chowder, everyone (including us) recommends the Old Fisherman's Grotto in Monterey, which is also just a hop, skip and a jump north on Hwy. 1. Many of the shops we loved so much have closed because of the tough economy, but there are still some fabulous galleries (MacDonald's, Weston) and fun shops to peruse. Our all-time favorite restaurant is the Flying Fish, located downstairs in the Carmel Plaza. Wonderful people, amazing food. We ate there TWICE this last trip.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Don't miss eating at the Flying Fish, downstairs in Carmel Plaza at Ocean & Junipero. If you like seafood, theirs is prepared in a slightly Japanesy fashion. I dream the whole week before of their Yin-Yan Salmon! And their artichoke appetizer w/the wasabe-mayo sauce....yum. The entire staff is wonderful. We've been going there since they opened in 1993, so we know almost everyone by name. It's a cozy little place, so be sure to get there early and enjoy!
