Try Demetra on Ocean Ave., Mediterranean cuisine, excellent, plenty of food, good mesa, salads and kebabs. Big line outside after 6:00 pm. Accepts reservations, and all major credit cards. Good bottle of Pinot Noire for $23.00. A jem, we just stumbled over it. Enjoy!!!

Carmel's Charm
We stayed only one night while travelling up the coast. The hotel was clean, the staff friendly and location comfortable for all walks to shopping.

Just Okay
First view of room showed a very compact room. There was just enough room to walk around the bed. Upon a closer view, we noticed the room was totally remodelled and painted. Very nice decor and paint. Bathroom was also very compact; but shower stall was very roomy. There was no fireplace in our unit. Even if they could put one in, not sure where it would be located in such a small room. All in all, the unit was very clean, neat and appealing, just not very roomy. Also, the lobby has a computer for public use. Went to use it at 8:30pm and the lobby was locked, with lights turned off. Sign on door stated it would be open thru 10pm. Finally used the computer the next morning and the ergonic arrangement of the computer keyboard and mouse was so compact, it was difficult to use. Continental breakfast was good; but did not have all the other menu options some of the other hotels offered, such as waffle or hard boiled egg, etc. This is a good hotel for business and for small families; but not too romantic for a couple.

Many great restaurants in the area that are all within walking distances. Nice to park your car in the hotel lot and not worry about the parking meters.

Nice Stay..
The gentleman at the desk was very nice and polite, allowed me to go into a room before check in time to use the bathroom. Stay was quiet, and restful. Prices a little too high though, but expect to pay $$$ to stay in Carmel as it's about 25 miles/1 hr from the Big Sur. If I were the owner, I'd change one thing...make the walk in closet smaller, and the bathroom bigger, otherwise its perfect, very romantic town and will definitely come back again. Oh and Private Parking which was fantastic.

We ate at The Corner restaurant, not too far down the road, good food, reasonable prices, and good service. Another hint not related to eating, if you got in early, you may want to go to 17 mile drive at Pebble Beach, it's $9 (which is kind of odd, but I guess that keeps out trouble makers?) but there's beach and some interesting things to keep you occupied before you check in.

Best Value in Carmel
The Best Western is a fantastic value in Carmel. It is pretty centrally located, so it is easiest to park the car and walk everywhere, since Carmel is fairly compact. We found that 10 minutes could get us to the store, the beach, most anything; half an hour could get us to the Mission (and Clint Eastwood's Mission Ranch) at a relaxed pace (as my wife is pregant at the time). The place is not your typical 5-star fancy, all-the-luxuries hotel, however such places are not allowed in Carmel at all. The Best Western is closer to a bed and breakfast (but with a limited breakfast) with a terrific location and friendly staff. If you're after a more typical hotel experience, you're probably better off staying outside Carmel (e.g. Marina) in a high-rise hotel and day-tripping it to Carmel, but then it may be problematic to park. The Best Western makes it easy to arrive, park the car, and relax/visit the town. It's a great value and seems to fill up early. Book well in advance!

Shopping tip:
Short walk from hotel
Bruno's Deli and Market (Junipero and 6th) has a great selection of deli items and all the supermarket basics. Whether you're after snacks or a picnic-style lunch, they've got it.
