Surf Motel Carlsbad

I love Carlsbad. I have been going there since I was a child. Its my favorite place. the location of the hotel is the best. You can walk everywhere if you want. Take your bike. Lots of riding. the beach is across the street, wheather its cold or warm you will want to walk the beach everyday and the sunset is the best. Everyone is very friendley. Please go.

Awesome location across the street from the beach and walking distance to everything you could need on a beach vacation. Loved the fact that they provided beach towels and beach chairs since we were traveling by motorcycle and had very little room to bring things with us.

This is a nice, friendly little hotel right across from a great beach.We had a room on the upper level which faced the parking lot. This was not a problem for us, but light sleepers could find it a little noisy. Our room was small, but clean and well-maintained.We spent most of our time enjoying the beach and walking around downtown Carlsbad, so our main objective in selecting this hotel was its location. The staff was very helpful and friendly and coffee, fruit and danishes were provided in the morning. Although this is not a fancy hotel, it is a great value considering how close you are to the ocean.

Stayed here many times and always had a good relaxing time.

We arrived and able to check in early. Friendly staff discussed the surrounding areas. Breakfast was diverse and again, day staff was friendly and helpful. Even prior to leaving, gave us information for things to do for the day. We parked our car, and walked to the beach, nearby restaurants, etc. We sat at the beach and watched Whales and sea life...great time. Very relaxing. Outstanding price!

We have been staying at the Surf Motel for over 15 years. We know it is an older motel, but we were really upset with the room we had on the last stay. It was inside the pool area, so we had to open the gate to the pool and walk around the pool furniture and other guests just to get to our room. As a matter of fact, the pool was just a few steps outside our door and the lounge chairs were right up against our window. We had very little privacy, as the other guests using the pool were right on the other side of our window. The room was so small you had to turn sideways to get between the bed and the armoire holding the TV. We also noticed they did not have a mattress pad on the bed nor did they use a fitted bottom sheet, so we ended up sleeping directly on the mattress within an hour or so after getting into bed (the slightest movement pulled the sheet off the mattress). This was uncomfortable and unsanitary. The room was small, stuffy and smelled musty. We cancelled our last night there and left a day earlier than planned.
