Price was right!
Room 130 was perfect with one exception: the air conditioner took about 4 hours to cool the room down from 86 to 74. It was much cooler outside so we spent some time on the balcony to cool off. We had a partial view of the lake which was nice. It was clean, had a nice sitting area with bar and refrigerator, 2 TVs, bed was comfortable. There's not much around the area, so be prepared to drive to eat. Which is not bad since restaurant row is nearby. There are two pools for guests with newer patio furniture. I brought my own hair dryer as the ones they have are really outdated and don't produce much heat.

Family Vacation
We booked the hotel because it was recomended by a family friend. It seems that the room they were booked in was much nicer then the one we had a chance to stay in. Our room was missing the refrigerator and there was no ironing board. I had to go to the front to request it. The Coffee that was offered in the room must have been in that room for quite a while, as the creamer and sugar were hard. The loaction was good; just 8 miles from Legoland. I liked the Lake, however we didn't get the chane to stay in a room with any view. We were hoping to get a chance to stay on the Lake side; which we believe was reserved for guest that booked directly through the hotel. The 2 pool areas, gym, and golf course were nice and clean. No bed bugs or fleas; which is awsome!

Continental Breakfast
The Continental Breakfast was hard bagels, cream cheese or butter, small muffin, and pre wrapped danishes. That was very dissapointing. That is consider a snack not breakfast. Other than that it was a good stay...

DONT'T BE DECEIVED!
DON'T BE DECEIVED BY THE PHOTOS AND THE "RESORT" IN THE NAME! MOTEL 6 MAY HAVE BEEN BETTER. TRIED TO HAVE A ROMANTIC GETAWAY FOR MY 5 YEAR WEDDING ANNIVERSARY AND BOY WAS I EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED! THE RESTAURANT OVERLOOKING THE LAKE WAS CLOSED FOR BUSINESS AS THE ENTIRE PROPERTY INCLUDING THE "MOTEL" WAS IN FORECLOSURE-SO MUCH FOR THAT ROMANTIC DINNER! THE CEILING IN THE ROOM HAD HUGE GAPING HOLES AND THE SHOWER CURTAIN WAS FILTHY AND MOLDED-I WORE SHOWER SHOES! FOR A MINUTE WE THOUGHT WE WERE CAMPING INSTEAD OF BEING AT A "RESORT". THE CARPET WAS FILTHY AND THE BEDSPREAD AND TOP SHEET HAD SOME SORT OF STICKY CANDY ON IT THAT I UNFORTUNATELY PUT MY HAND IN. DID I MENTION NEITHER ONE OF US HAD ANY CANDY? YUCK!!! AND THE ICING ON THE CAKE IS THAT THEY HAVE THE NERVE TO CHARGE A RESORT FEE ON TOP OF THE ROOM RATE. HA! CABLE TV WAS LACKING. NEEDS TO BE DEMOLISHED AND REBUILT. HOWEVER OUTSIDE GROUNDS WERE SERENE AND WELL KEPT AND STAFF WAS FRIENDLY. JUST DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THE "MOTEL".

WEEK LONG STAY
THE HOTEL WAS NICE BUT FOR A "RESORT" IT WAS NOT WHAT I THOUGHT. IT HAD WEIRD SMELLS THROUGH THE HALLS AND ROOMS. OUR ROOM ON THE UPSTAIRS HAD WINDOWS UP HIGH THAT COULD NOT BE COVERED SO AS SOON AS THE SUN CAME UP AT 5:30-6AM YOU COULD NOT SLEEP ANYMORE. WE STAYED FOR 6 NIGHTS, 7 DAYS AND ONLY RECEIVED ROOM SERVICE 3 TIMES. ONE OF THE THREE TIMES I HAD TO GO REQUEST ROOM SERVICE FOR CLEAN TOWELS. THE FIRST ROOM SERVICE WE HAD THEY TOOK OUR OLD TOWELS AND DID NOT LEAVE CLEAN ONES. I AM NOT A PICKY PERSON AT ALL BUT TO PAY AN ADDITIONAL $9 PER NIGHT AT CHECK OUT FOR THE "RESORT" FEE I THINK THE ROOM SERVICE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A LITTLE BETTER. AT LEAST CLEAN TOWELS EVERYDAY.

Nice quiet relaxing spot!
Lovely hotel in the middle of a residential neighborhood with lake and golf course nearby. Quiet and peaceful although too foggy in am to see the lake. Was really looking forward to using the hot tub and it was broken!

Was Good Years Ago, But No Longer
We've used San Marcos Resort many times over the years to host family members with general satisfaction - until now. We scheduled a 2-week stay for my father-in-law recently. Never again. Never. While there, his room was dingy. Maid service didn't arrive every day. The guy next door to his room kept a dog in the room and his door was open most of the time with what looked like a mess that accumulated over a few months. The guy who was seen in the room often slept (passed out?) in his car below - with his room open. Safety a concern? You bet. My father-in-law's room didn't have a fridge - the first time that ever happened to us when hosting someone there. I called to ask for a fridge as he's too modest to assert himself. I was told that there were no fridges available, but for $10/night more, they would "find" one. $10 multiplied by a 14-day stay = $140. Target sells a cube fridge for $40. Talk about a shameless shakedown. When I suggested this, they said they'd look around for a fridge. Their talk is cheap - no fridge. San Marcos Resort has become increasingly run down. Water drips from the pipes in the ceiling in the public walkways. It smells funny, and the management seems to only care about the money but not whether a patron will ever return. Maybe new management will take this once-nice property over and overhaul it, but our experience has assured us that we'll never return until we have such a guarantee, and we'll never again recommend it to friends who come to visit. If I could have given a negative star rating, I would have.
